Early Times Report
PAMPORE, Apr 18: Joint Secretary of DPIIT, Sanjiv Singh on Thursday interacted with the startups, incubators and industrial associates from the Kashmir valley here at Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI). Speaking during "Startup Initiative Review", Sanjiv endorsed 'Open Network for Digital Commerce' (ONDC), emphasising its role in democratising the digital commerce landscape and how the startups from Jammu and Kashmir need to connect with it. He highlighted the ONDC as a network, offering support to non- digitised individuals and promoting inclusivity in the e-commerce process. "We will try to connect with you with ONDC. In a recent event with Walmart, 112 toy manufacturers participated and got connected with global supply chain for 10 years. And same will be done here. You need to take benefits from Indian market, think Indian, gain control of supply chain to India," he told the participant startups. The participant incubators included Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), SKUAST-K, Kashmir University. The Startups from Kashmir valley who participated in the Startup initiative include Fast Beetle (courier and logistic services), Kashmir Box, a social entrepreneurship initiative e-commerce platform, e-Fruit Mandi, Gatoes, a SaS based food delivery platform, Zareen (rainbow trouts), Ayan- adventure tourism, Gulkaar (Mental health services), Curve electric (e-bike chain), Fintech (courier chain) and Sky Robot drones. The Joint Secretary urged the startups to focus on booming tourism industry and cricket bats. "There is much need to publicise these and it doesn't cost you much these days keeping in view the social marketing techniques. One big challenge in apple industry, Herman-99 is the apple product which can be grown anywhere, this shows how the market is changing and developing. We need to study our competition very well. Clean energy targets need to be focused upon just like Europe," he said in during his review and interaction with the startups. The participant startups shared their views and issued being faced while trying to compete and excel at the national level. "We are here to help you in every possible manner. DPIIT will soon start three month courses for incubators. In the month of May ONDC meet may be arranged in J& K. We need to work on fundamental level, build interface, work with incubators and launch pads in Kashmir. An intellectual group needs to be developed for leading the change," he said.
The Joint Secretary who was accompanied by a team of officials said he was happy that some startups from J& K participated in this year's Startup Mahakumbh at New Delhi. "Next year, we expect more participation from J&K in Startup Mahakumbh.
Government will also develop an application for selling products online on the pattern of ONDC.
The event "Startup Initiative Review" was facilitated by Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), the nodal agency for J&K Startup Policy implementation in Jammu and Kashmir.
