4/25/2024 11:11:24 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 25: As the world prepares to celebrate World Red Cross Day on May 8th, the Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu and Kashmir, has embarked on a proactive mission to engage and uplift various segments of society, under the guidance of Sh. Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Lt. Governor and Hon’ble President of IRCS, J&K, and the supervision of Sh. Rohit Khajuria, General Secretary of IRCS, J&K-UT.
On April 25th, 2024, the society initiated a range of impactful activities aimed at fostering community welfare and spreading awareness about humanitarian efforts. These endeavors signify the organization’s commitment to honor the legacy of Sir Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of the International Committee of Red Cross.
In a bid to support menstrual health management among young girls, the Indian Red Cross Society distributed free sanitary napkins to approximately 100 female students from 8th to 12th grade at Govt. Girls High School, Kachi Chawni, Jammu.
Accompanying this distribution was a comprehensive menstrual hygiene lecture delivered by Dr. Kavita Nijhon, Medical Officer, along with Ms. Vironica Marwah, Field Officer, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K-UT. This initiative aims to ensure that girls can manage their menstrual health with dignity and comfort.
Recognizing the significant role of young volunteers in community service, a Youth Red Cross Programme was organized at Govt. College for Women, Parade Jammu. Dr. Kavita Nijhon, Medical Officer, and Vironica Marwah, Field Officer, IRCS, J&K, inaugurated the event. The programme focused on instilling leadership qualities among students and imparting knowledge about first aid. Students were also encouraged to become members of IRCS, J&K-UT.
Even in the scorching summer heat, the Indian Red Cross Society continued its morning tea services at Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Jammu, providing refreshments for poor patients and their attendants, demonstrating the organization’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian assistance.
An eight-day First-Aid training programme was conducted at Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, Jammu, targeting commercial vehicle drivers and youth from the community. The comprehensive training covered various aspects of disaster management, first aid techniques, and emergency medical procedures.
Practical and theoretical lectures were conducted by Dr. Kavita Nijhon Verma and Dr. Manpreet Kaur, Medical Officers, with assistance from other healthcare professionals.
Special emphasis was placed on topics such as drug de-addiction and free eye check-ups were provided to participants.
The programme concluded with Sh. Rohit Khajuria, General Secretary, IRCS J&K-UT, interacting with participants and issuing provisional certificates, marking the successful culmination of the training.
These initiatives underscore the Indian Red Cross Society’s unwavering dedication to serving humanity and promoting the spirit of compassion and solidarity, in line with the principles laid down by Sir Jean Henry Dunant. As World Red Cross Day approaches, the society reaffirms its commitment to making a positive impact on society, one humanitarian act at a time.
