SIC takes U-turn on its own penalty notices
1/25/2015 11:53:07 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 25: As the State Information Commission (SIC) has been continuously issuing penalty notices against the erring Government officials especially the Public Information Officers (PIOs), the same Commission on the other hand is dropping the said penalty cases in very large numbers without even informing the aggrieved persons (RTI appellants). Details available with Early Times reveal that in less than two years, (2012 to 2014) the State Information Commission (SIC) has dropped penalty notices against more than 95% of the Public Information Officers (PIO's). In all the cases penalty show cause notices had been issued by the State Information Commission which includes two Information Commissioners and one Chief Information Commissioner (CIC). Out of these 221 dropped penalty cases, the SIC's Jammu office dropped 33 cases against various erring PIOs from 4.10.2012 to 31.01.2014. The Srinagar office of the commission has dropped 89 cases in almost two years ie from 07.03.2012 to 17.04.2014 and the central office which is on move with the durbar dropped 96 ca...

1/25/2015 11:37:32 PM
Mudasir Tariq Early Times Report Srinagar, Jan 25 : Despite lofty claims by the Power Development department to install meters in every household of the state, only forty percent of the installation has been completed while the department has missed several deadlines. In order to save transmission and distribution loss the department had announced to install these meters, but even after four years the department is yet to complete the process. Mufti shatters "rejected" Cong's game-plan to enjoy power
1/25/2015 11:05:13 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 25: With the confirmation of talks by none less than Mufti Mohammad Sayeed himself is a clear indication that formation of PDP-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir is imminent. Patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Saturday confirmed that "track-II" talks with BJP were going on and these talks would be followed by a structured dialogue in which a group of BJP and PDP leaders would sit together and formulate Common Minimum Programme (CMP). With this admission, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has shattered dreams of Congress leaders who were desperately trying to become party of the government because they don't have habit to live without power...

PDP rubbishes Omar's jibes on possible alliance with BJP
Enlists NC's compromises to stay in power
1/25/2015 11:05:04 PM
Kunal Shrivatsa Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 25: PDP has smashed Omar Abdullah's sarcasm on twitter targeting its possible alliance with BJP to put in place a government in J&K and rebuffed NC chief's tweets on contentious issues like dynastic rule, Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and dialogue with separatists. Speaking to Early Times, PDP Spokesperson Nayeem Akhtar was all guns blazing against Omar Abdullah for his anti-PDP comments on Twitter. Mincing no words in criticizing Omar's 'compromise' jibe for PDP on Twitter, Akhtar while reminding him of a chain of compromises he and NC made while ruling the state, said that it is better that Omar Abdullah keep silent. "It would b...

Giving shutdown call on R-day full-ledged business
Money Game!
1/25/2015 11:04:49 PM
Pak sponsored tanzeems want to keep pot boiling ET Report JAMMU, Jan 25: Once again separatists have called for a shutdown in Kashmir on the occasion of Republic Day. The practice of calling for a strike on January 26 has been going on since 1990 as separatists believe that by doing so they do a favour to Kashmiris. What an irony! How wrong they are. Statements calling for a strike start pouring in at least a week before January 26 celebrations. Even the tanzeems which comprise only of three to four people ensure that their statement reaches the news organizations well in advance and gets published. In the hey days of militancy usually the militant outfits used to call for the strike a...

Despite strong Modi wave in Jammu province, some PDP candidates have successfully managed respectable number of votes which is clear indication that acceptability of PDP is increasing in Hindu majority areas provided party leadership would encouraged credible leaders who are connected with the masses and active at grass-root level. First time during the last three assembly elections a PDP candidate has secured more than 25,000 votes in Jammu province from pu...

NC dashes Azad's hopes to the ground
Rajya Sabha election
1/25/2015 11:03:36 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 25: Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who reportedly tried his level best to enlist the support of the National Conference and the PDP to re-enter the Rajya Sabha, has, it seems, failed in his game plan. The PDP, which has 28 MLAs, has already announced two candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections and left the remaining two seats for its future potential ally BJP. In other words, the PDP has shown thumb to Azad. The Congress has 12 MLAs and it needs the support of 15 NC MLAs and three independent MLAs to win a Rajya Sabha seat. Azad needs the support of 30 MLAs to make it to the Rajya Sabha. Significantly, not all the Congress support Azad. There is a powerful...

Beig again bats for PDP-BJP Government
Inter-regional animosity
1/25/2015 10:55:08 PM
Rustam Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 25: Member of Lok Sabha, PDP's ideologue and perhaps also the author of the PDP's self-rule document and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzzaffar Hussain Beig is perhaps one Kashmiri leader who appreciates the fact that the relations between the people of Jammu province and Kashmir regions are far from normal and that the PDP-BJP coalition government in the state alone could harmonize inter-regional relations. Beig perhaps is also the only Kashmiri leader who has been consistent on his stand on the government formation. Right from December 23, when the elections threw up a hung assembly, Beig has been batting for coalition between the PDP and the BJP,...
