TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Why's Omar Abdullah's NC shying away from its past stand on Oct 27?
Sheikh Abdullah had celebrated it as historic day
10/27/2018 10:35:52 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 27: As separatists in Kashmir had issued a strike call on October 27 to protest the landing of Indian army in the Valley on that day in 1947, the silence National Conference is maintaining on the historic day is intriguing. The NC on Saturday not even uttered a word over this day on which Kashmir was freed from the tribals from Pakistan. There is not even a single statement coming out from any leader of the party in which the day could have been remembered. However, the silence of the party seems to have been a subtle admittance that it obeys the separatists and would second them in observing the day as 'Black Day' in Kashmir. Meanwhile, what the party seems to have forgotten is the fact that it was its founder Sheikh Abdullah who played a crucial role on October 27. Sheikh Abdullah himself recalls this day in his autobiography and says that when the tribals entered Kashmir, they decided to destroy the city bridges leading to Srinagar airport. "This would impede the movement of the Indian troops when they landed. Getting the wind of this, we pos...

10/27/2018 10:35:33 PM

Congress, BJP alienated Jammu to appease Kashmir
Congress' vote-share down by 21%, BJP's by 51%
10/27/2018 10:33:10 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 27: The just-held ULB elections in Jammu provide an opportunity to both the BJP and the Congress leadership to sit up, retrospect and find why the people of Jammu City, the hub of all activities and the original capital of Jammu & Kashmir state, are feeling alienated from them. The poll results for both the parties must be a cause of worry. Of course, the BJP created a history in Jammu City by winning 43 of the 75 wards which constitute the prestigious Jammu Municipal Corporation, but in terms of votes, the BJP lost its face. It's clear that the BJP won the Jammu Municipal Corporation by default. Hence, there is no real reason for the BJP to indulge in drum b...

10/27/2018 9:35:20 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 27: A Superintendent of Police (SP) ranked officer was shuffled to a posting just about two weeks ago but was transferred from there to a post of his choice within 24 days, thanks to behind the curtains political manipulations. This lightening speed transfer of the SP was facilitated to amuse his political boss who wanted him to be posted in his area. Sources informed Early Times that a former minister sought the SP's posting in his area following which pressure was mounted in the corridors of power in New Delhi. After much persuasions and manoeuvrings, the State Home department finally transferred the officer to the place of his, as well as his politica...

'We don't want involvement of Jammu, Ladakh in dialogue process': Separatists
Living in a fool's paradise
10/27/2018 9:35:08 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 27: Separatists in Kashmir and leadership of parties like Congress, NC and PDP are, it appears, living in a fool's paradise. They are urging New Delhi to ignore Jammu and Ladakh and initiate "a dialogue process with Kashmiri leaders to end the 71-year-old Kashmir impasse and restore peace in the region". Their argument is that there is no problem in Jammu and Ladakh or there is no unrest in Jammu and Ladakh and that the problem is here in Kashmir. This parochial and lop-sided or patently Kashmir-centric approach of Kashmiri leaders of all shades of opinion constitutes what the trouble-shooters and Jammu & Kashmir-watchers term as a "big problem". "There ...
