Separatists maintain criminal silence over Sarpanch's killing | Panchayat representatives soft targets for 'frustrated militants' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 13: The abduction and subsequent killing of a Sarpanch in north Kashmir's volatile Sopore town one day ahead of fourth phase of the assembly elections in Srinagar, Anantnag and Shopian districts has once again proved that Panchayat representatives are soft targets for the militants and when they (militants) fail to strike in a big way they make it a point to at least kill a Panch or a Sarpanch.
Pertinently suspected militants abducted Ghulam Mohammad Mir, 62, from Tarzoo area in Sopore last night and his body was recovered from a field in Shalabugh area of Sopore town this morning. A week ago, the militants had shot dead a Sarpanch Mohammad Sultan in south Kashmir's Shopian area, while another one was shot at and injured in Pulwama.
In May this year ahead of the Parliamentary polls militants created fear ahead of polls in south Kashmir by targeting Panchs and Sarpanchs but this time around due to tight security and intensified vigil militants couldn't succeed in inflicting much damage despite making desperate attempts.

Jammu, Dec 13: Faculty in University campus these days is intensely debating acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.D. Sharma's rightwing shift and apparent appeasement of a selected few.
If the university faculty members are to be believed, Sharma violated sanctity of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) to appease none other than BJP's senior leader and candidate from Billawar constituency Dr. Nirmal Singh by allowing his wife, who is a contractual employee to campaign for her husband. Prior to this, faculty members maintain that Sharma bestowed Prof. Rajnikant with the charge of Academic Staff College (ASC).
They added that acting VC did this to purportedly appease Dr. Nirmal S...
| | Post-poll scene in J&K may be more interesting than ongoing poll process | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 13: Assuming that the ongoing Assembly election throws up a hung House what shape the coalition rule may assume? Will it be the Congress-NC coalition Government, a repeat of 2008 experiment? Will it be a congress-PDP coalition rule, a repeat of the 2002 experiment? Will it be the BJP-NC or BJP-PDP coalition Government?
These questions have started surfacing in Jammu and Kashmir even after the leadership of the Congress, the NC and the PDP claim that they would get comfortable majority to run the Government on its own. People and political leaders have not yet dubbed the BJP's ambition of achieving +44 mission as mere wishful thinking.
Since 2002 elections...
| | This is the worst Congress ever | It is even worse than it looks | | Bharat Bhushan
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 13: The state Congress is no good, very bad Congress. It is faced with the constipation of ideas and is dubbed as "do-nothing Congress". Except for NC criticism, it has nothing to offer to the electorate. In his series of public meetings, party veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad has repented on having an alliance with NC. AICC chairperson Sonia Gandhi too has accused NC and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for their failure to implement UPA schemes in J&K. The top Congress leadership is nowadays busy in NC bashing without realising the fact that it needs to first set its own house in order. Not outsiders but its own ministers have caused it a greater harm a...
