TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Ex-babus fail to garner votes in J&K
5/14/2019 1:10:29 AM
Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report Srinagar, May 13: The political parties may be a breeding ground for retired bureaucrats in Jammu and Kashmir, but these bureaucrats have failed to strike a chord with the people during elections. Several officials after retirement joined the politics, but apparently not a single one has won the elections, placing a question mark on their overall stature among people. In the past 15 years, several government officials after their retirement joined the politics. Those who entered into electoral fray were rejected by the people, while some prefer to take the easier route of the Upper House of the state legislature. Take for instance, former divisional commissioner Mehboob Iqbal, who was the PDP's candidate from Bhadarweh assembly segment in 2014 polls but lost the elections. He recently joined the National Conference. IGP Crime, Raja Aiaz, after his retirement joined the PDP. He contested 2014 assembly elections from Uri constituency but lost to National Conference leader Mohammad Shafi Uri. Raja recently joined Sajad Lone-led Peoples Conf...

'Follow nationalist agenda or join separatist camp'
5/14/2019 1:10:18 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, May 13: Kashmir centric parties are feeling the heat as there is every possibility about the President's rule in Jammu and Kashmir being extended beyond 20 June, 2019. As reported earlier by this newspaper the Assembly elections in the state are likely to be deferred till November this year due to forthcoming tourist season, Amarnath Yatra, academic calendar and migration of nomads to the upper reaches. An insider revealed that Kashmir centric parties may not find it easy to get their way. "Centre's policy vis-à-vis Kashmir is clear that Kashmir centric parties have to choose between nationalism and separatism. These parties cannot sail in two boats." He said...

5/14/2019 1:09:59 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, May 13: The failure of Government to arrest the terrorists who gunned down Parihar brothers in Kishtwar last November and those who attacked senior RSS leader and his PSO in April this year and BJP leader in Nigam village of Dooru tehsil in South Kashmir's Anantnag district has raised a question mark over the functioning of security agencies in the State. Despite handing over the case of Parihar brothers to National Investigating Agency (NIA) on growing public demand the terrorists are still at large though Government had earlier claimed an early breakthrough. According to sources, failure of Government to identify the killers of the RSS and BJP leaders i...

5/14/2019 1:09:50 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, May 13: Even as authorities are trying their best to ensure peace and harmony after gruesome and heinous incident of Bandipora, some elements are hell bent to give sectarian colour to the horrific incident. According to a Kashmir based news agency, senior Shia leader Aga Syed Hasan Almosvi Alsafvi Monday sai...

'Champions of hartal' in Kashmir skip shutdown call against rape of 3-yr-old
5/14/2019 1:09:37 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, May 13: Even as the rape of a three year old girl in Bandipora area of north Kashmir has shocked the entire world, the people of Kashmir, who are otherwise seen as "champions" of observing hartals for the so called Kashmir issue skipped to observe strike call given against the gruesome incident. Even though some political and religious groups had given a call for complete hartal in Kashmir on Monday against the rape incident, in the absence of support from the Hurriyat and their counterparts, the strike for the "cause of humanity" didn't mature. Even though people of Kashmir and their separatist leaders often call for hartal in the name of "resolution to Kas...
