TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Had NC befooled people on boycotting ULB elections in 2018?
After officially boycotting elections to ‘protect’ Article 35-A, how come NC leadership is now claiming to hold the key to elect the Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
7/11/2020 11:55:41 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, July 11: For the prestigious election of Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), two main political parties-Congress and National Conference, have yet not opened their cards. Instead of declaring open support of any of the candidates for July 14 Mayor election, leadership of both the parties are just weighing pros and cons. Interestingly the National Conference had boycotted the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) elections held in the October month of 2018. The biggest question is that the party, who had boycotted the elections, is now claiming that it holds the key to the Mayor's post. It has now become clear that NC had ‘boycotted’ elections for public consumption but internally the party had fielded proxy candidates like it did in Panchayats and Block Development Councils (BDCs) elections. When ULB elections were announced, NC had announced that it will not participate in the polls “unless and until the Government of India and state government clears its position, and takes effective steps to protect Article 35 A in and outside the court”. Officia...
