To oppose domicile laws, Kashmir based parties now hailing Maharaja Hari Singh’s vision | | |

Jammu, July 1: After demonizing last Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh for years together as by calling him as ‘despot’ and ‘oppressor’, now some Kashmir centric parties are hailing Maharaja’s vision and invoking Maharaja to oppose domicile law introduced in the J&K from April 1, 2020.
As part of their campaign to oppose domicile certificates to ‘outsiders’, these parties are invoking the same Dogra rulers against whom a vicious and malicious campaign was launched earlier by them only.
Kashmir centric parties are arguing that it was Maharaja Hari Singh, who had introduced State Subject provision in the year 1927.
These parties are claiming Maharaja had brought these laws into effect to save the interests of those locals holding land and finding representation in the state administration as there were apprehensions of non-state subjects usurping the locals.
Interestingly the same Kashmir based parties had vociferously opposed a resolution passed in J&K Legislative Council to declare state holiday on September 23-the birthday of Maharaja. They had staged ... | |

Jammu, July 1: The Jammu and Kashmir government is looking ahead to evict former Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation from the official accommodation in Srinagar.
Sources in the Civil Secretariat here said the government has decided to serve a formal notice in the coming days to former Mayor Junaid Mattoo that he should leave his official residence near Gupkar. It is pertinent to mention that Junaid after becoming the Mayor was given the government accommodation that was previously occupied by ministers.
