TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Lal Singh does Azad bashing, calls him "cheat"
7/22/2014 12:01:55 AM
Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, July 21: A day after announcing his resignation from the Congress, two-time former Lok Sabha member Choudhary Lal Singh while slamming former Union Health Minister and Congress veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad alleged that the latter ditched him during Lok Sabha polls as party High Command had decided to repeat him from Udhampur-Doda constituency. Leveling serious allegation against Azad, Lal Singh said that he was denied the mandate for Parliamentary polls at the last minute since a conspiracy was hatched against him by the senior Congress leader in New Delhi. While addressing a press conference here today, Lal Singh, who was accompanied by his wife Kanta Andotra- a former MLA from Basohli, minced no words in venting his anger against Azad as the former Member of Parliament throughout his twenty-minute long media interaction didn't focus on anything else except 'Azad bashing'. "I have decided to quit Congress since I was feeling suffocated in the party….After consulting and taking nod of party workers in a meeting held yesterday at Kathua I finally made up my min...

7/22/2014 12:01:12 AM
Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, July 21: The announcement of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah that his father Dr. Farooq Abdullah is not going to contest the upcoming Assembly elections has put the top leadership of National Conference in a quandary. Omar who is the working president of National Conference had on Sunday said that due to failing health Dr. Farooq would not be able to contest the Assembly elections slated to be held few months later. Cong, NC snap ties to improve performance during ensuing Assembly poll
7/22/2014 12:00:49 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, July 21: When senior Congress leader and former Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, called on the PDP patron, Mufti Mohd. Sayeed, in Srinagar on June 21 it proved a turning point in the five and a half years' long alliance between the Congress and the National Conference. This meeting, notwithstanding the fact that Azad claimed that it was a courtesy call where the two did not discuss politics, was seen by the NC leadership as a new beginning in post-poll alliance between the PDP and the Congress. And if Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has claimed that he had conveyed to Sonia Gandhi the party's decision to go alone in the ensuing Assembly election about 1...

Divorce between losers or a drama
7/22/2014 12:00:37 AM
Rustam JAMMU, July 21: The relations between the NC and most of the Congress leaders were never cordial ever since the Congress high command handed over the coveted office of Chief Minister to Omar Abdullah. The style of functioning of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his uncle Mustafa Kamaal's attacks on the Congress leadership in general and local Congress leadership in particular at regular intervals had further widened the gulf between the two parties. The only persons in the Congress party who did not allow the things to reach a point of no return were the Congress Ministers and the Congress high command and there were reasons for that. The most important reason was the Ministers' lu...

Shakeel a Khan SRINAGAR, July 21: Finally the Pradesh Congress Committee has handed over the divorce letter to the National Conference after their bonhomie for nearly six years thus shooting down the morale of its coalition partner. This development has served as a shell shock to the National Conference and the chances of its recovery are minimal. The damaged ship of the National Conference is sinking fast and it will be difficult to pull it out of the 'Mariana Trench'. This particular development seems has broken the back of the leaders of the National Conference who find it hard to come to the terms now.
