BJP at civil war over reserved seats
7/24/2014 11:47:04 PM
Abodh Sharma Jammu, July 24: The aspirants of party mandate for the seven reserved seats of Jammu region have been ravaged by bitter factionalism and rivalry has broken out amongst candidates belonging to various castes and sub castes for getting the mandate for seats reserved for candidates of reserved categories. While there is by and large a consensus within BJP to repeat mandate to the sitting MLAs who have been elected from reserved candidates including Durga Dass from Hiranagar, Bharat Bhushan Bodi from Raipur Damana and Gharu Ram Bhagat from R S Pura, sources within the party divulge that Bali Bhagat, the state general secretary of the party is trying to throw spanner in the scheme of things by trying to carve out a reserved seat for himself. "He is trying to engineer a divide within the schedule caste leaders and workers of the party for his vested interests," said a party functionary pleading anonymity. "He should contest from Ramban from where he comes as it is also a reserved seat, but he knows that he has no public support there and has ruined the party in that distric...

Desperate to save his sinking ship, Omar trying to again rake up AFSPA issue
7/24/2014 11:46:14 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, July 24: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is desperately taking up confrontation with the Modi Government at the Centre to save his "sinking ship". He said in the recent past that the "Centre will still find excuse to retain Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) even if all the guns fall silent in the state". He made this statement even after Centre had categorically stated that time is not ripe for the revocation of the AFSPA from the State. The statement of the Modi Government was in line with the previous Government which also didn't connect to the demand of the Chief Minister. Omar had about two years back put all his political eggs in the basket of AFSPA but ...

Illegal arrangement becomes law
7/24/2014 11:45:54 PM
ET Report JAMMU, July 24: Jammu University seems to have made up its mind to give up teaching human rights to scholars, Army, police and paramilitary forces. University administration has seemingly begun the process of winding up the post-graduate diploma course in Human Rights. None from the department of law which has been assigned task of admitting students to this course to officials of the university are seemingly serious towards admitting students to this course. The department was started in the year 2006 as part of the Law School of Jammu University. Initially, the University created 30 seats for this course with 5 reserved for Army, Paramilitary Forces and Police. This was subse...

After more than two years, since the Government accorded sanction for constitution of State Road Development Corporation (SRDC), it has yet to take off. Moreover, it will be another shocker for residents of Jammu and Kashmir, as the people have to pay user charges, for using the roads and bridges, constructed by SRDC. Sources informed Early Times that in the month of May 2012, the state Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had accorded sanction under Government order number 320-PW-R&B, for setting up of SRD...

Bivek Mathur JAMMU, July 24: With major announcements at the fag end of his coalition Government, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah might have impressed bureaucrats and Ministers in his Cabinet but has failed to impress the public in general. Beginning with the Government achievement of 659 new administrative units, he left no stone unturned to attract general public with certain decisions like revocation of new administrative policy which has spoiled over two years of the unemployed youth of the state, consideration of five year service of Rehbar-e-Talim teachers and the promotional benefits, advertisement of 1,651 posts by J&K PSC, enhancement of retirement age for the employees and the incr...

However, their hopes have been dashed by the recent statement of Omar. "Omar has no charisma to...

Is there dearth of KAS/IAS officers in J&K?
7/24/2014 11:45:03 PM
K Koushal JAMMU, July 24: Be it political influence or the lack of competent cadre, a dark duckling has been turned into 'swan' in the School Education Department which almost is witnessing a make shift arrangements for quite a long time in recent past. If recalled here the Director of School Education has virtually seen a musical chair game with quick shifting of atleast seven Directors with a short span of time. Pertinently, on July 16 former Director Tushar Kanti Sharma has been transferred and all the powers have been given to HR Pakhroo. The question arises here is whether there is shortage of KAS/IAS officers in the state or it was well planned conspiracy as the post of Director ...
