Srinagar, Aug 27: Hectic lobbying has begun for the top post of the State administration after incumbent Chief Secretary, Iqbal Khanday refused to reconsider his voluntary retirement plan.
Several senior officers are lobbying hard for the post even as the cabinet meet was assisted by BR Sharma as Khanday opted to stay away from the meet.
Sharma's assistance gave rise to speculations that he may be entrusted the job of the top babu. However, hectic lobbying which by and large is communally motivated has begun to keep him out. Sharma is at serial No 5 in the seniority list.
Other officers who can occupy the post are Dr. Arun Kumar, Financial Commissioner Revenue, a 1979 batch IAS Officer to retire in December 2016 and his wife Sonali Kumar, Chairperson of J&K Tribunal, also a 1979 batch officer to retire in November 2015.
However, Arun Kumar is unlikely to make it to the top post because of his role during the Amarnath Land Row.
The sinister campaign against the aforementioned officers may ultimately pave way for Khurshid Ganie's journey to the top post.

Srinagar, Aug 27: As Chief Secretary Iqbal Khandey is all set to bid adieu to his post, the opposition parties Congress and National Conference are trying their best to lure him with a high post in their respective organisations.
Sources said that Khandey who expressed his resentment against some ministers has been approached by some NC and Congress leaders here, asking him to join their parties. He is being promised an important position within the party. Though there has been no formal meeting over the issue between the NC leadership and Khandey but all attempts are being made by the party to ensure that Khandey remains in good relations with the NC.

It's in place to mention here that government had constituted the Chief Secretary led high level panel to finalize the list of corrupt officials framed by the SVO. The much hyped panel had cleared the first list of more than 60 officials two months ago and they were shown the exit door.
