TOP STORY OF THE DAY
BJP may support bill to revoke ban on beef eating
Crucial Assembly Session
9/30/2015 12:47:21 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 29: It will be clear in a day or two if the private members' bills on revocation of ban on cow killing and consumption of beef in the State will be taken up for discussion in the upcoming Assembly session, starting on October 3. The Speaker of the Assembly Kavinder Gupta, who happens to be a BJP MLA, is likely to take a decision today or tomorrow, as the his Secretariat has to finalize the business agenda to be taken up during the week-long session of the State Legislature. The opposition National Conference, the CPI-M and an independent MLA from Langate (Kashmir), Engineer Rashid, have submitted bills to the Speaker's office and all the bills seek revocation of ban on cow killing and beef eating. Reports from Kashmir suggest that the NC, the CPI-M and Engineer Rashid were not willing to oblige the PDP-BJP coalition Government by withdrawing their bills. They would insist on discussion on and adoption of their bills, as they see in their move an opportunity to corner the PDP and embarrass the BJP and score political points by playing a religious ...

Power hungry BJP Ministers pay no heed to Dr Jitendra Singh's suggestion
Dogra certificate for Jammu youth
9/30/2015 12:47:05 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 29: Apparently drowned by politics of power, BJP Ministers in the PDP-BJP coalition have not given any response to the serious suggestion given by the Union Minister of State in the PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh to bring a resolution in the Assembly to grant Dogra certificate to the youth of Jammu region. For the ensuing session of the J&K Legislative Assembly, none of the BJP MLA has so far announced to take up the issue of Dogra certificate to fulfil long pending genuine demand of the youth of Jammu. BJP MLAs are more concerned over emotive issues instead of taking up this genuine cause which will benefit thousands and thousands of unemployed youth of Jammu re...

BJP's Kashmir unit believes in exaggeration of figures of its members
'Crowd' more than real activists of party
9/30/2015 12:46:49 AM
Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 29: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) unit in the Kashmir valley seems to be over the moon over the fact that lakhs of people have enrolled themselves as members of the party. Truth of the matter is that only few hundred are 'active' BJP workers with the rest being part of the 'crowd'. Sources told Early Times that BJP office bearers in Kashmir are interested in counting the heads and not worried about the intelligence of the people joining them. In most of the cases it has been observed that money power has been used to lure people to party ranks and inflate the membership of the party in Kashmir with the real cadre not being much. The e...

BJP turns secular for power, Congress turns rightist to win over people's trust
Roles reversed in Jammu
9/30/2015 12:46:14 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 29: Strange things are happening in Jammu region. Those who used to masquerade as champions of the Jammu cause and national cause in the State have turned secular overtime. They have joined the same Kashmiri-dominated and Kashmir-centric system that they opposed all through their life. The case in point is the BJP and its mentor, the RSS. Both have abandoned Jammu region and joined the pro-Kashmir crusade in their bid to enjoy political power. In Jammu & Kashmir, secularism means pro-Kashmiri Muslim and anti-Hindu, anti-Jammu and anti-Ladakh policies. In other words, those who in Jammu and Ladakh fight for the nation, demand abrogation of Article 370 and ...

No let-up in crime against women, 1 raped everyday in J&K
9/30/2015 12:45:57 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 29: There has been no let-up in crime targeted against women in J&K, where at least one woman is raped everyday. 331 cases of rape and 3,321 of other nature, including 1,421 of eve-teasing, were registered at different police stations across the state last year, while in the past three months of this year, the number of such cases stands at nearly two dozen. This exposes the hollow claims of the state police that they are committed to the protection of women. At any given time, eve-teasers can be spotted at different city crossings and outside women's colleges but the "vigilant" cops take no notice of their activities. Police sources said in 204 of the la...

9/30/2015 12:45:41 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 29: J&K Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta continues to draw more flak for watching a Modelling Show of which he was the chief guest notwithstanding the fact that RSS and BJP are ideologically opposed to the holding of such shows and celebration of Valentine's Day, terming them as vulgar and against Indian culture. People feel that since the Speaker's chair commands a great respect, Kavinder should have kept a distance from the fashion show. He was present in the show along with BJP activist Yudhvir Sethi. RSS and BJP were the first to oppose to the celebrations of Valentine's Day in India and the two dissuade people every year on February 14through prot...
