JAMMU, Feb 24: The casual approach of the State Government towards the employees working in Public Sector can be gauged from the fact that four newly Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) offices in Jammu region are functioning headless. Moreover, Inspector EPF is working as Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner in violation of set norms.
Sources told Early Times that Government had ordered creation for four new EPF offices in four districts of Jammu region including Samba, Udhampur, Rajouri and Doda last year on December 31, 2013 in order to early disposal of various cases related to provident funds of the employees working in various private organizations in the state.
They further said that Minister for Planning and Development Labour and Employment Ajay Sadhotra who had chaired the meeting in which the decision for opening up of these four EPF offices was taken but without setting up of the infrastructure and arrangement of the required staff for smooth functioning of these offices.
Astoundingly, Inspectors Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) of the concerned districts are handling office affairs in absence of Assistant Provident Fund Commissioners who actually head the offices, and taking all decisions in total violation of rules and regulations, sources said.
Sources further informed that minimum staff strength of six people is required to run an EPF office including Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner (ACPF) who heads the office, an inspector, Accountant officer, two clerks and an orderly but contrary to it only inspector is functioning in absence of the staff which is delaying the redressal of cases.
They further informed that as many as 200 cases are waiting for their redressal. Even the cases which have been finalized for payment and advance loans are lying pending from the beginning of this year and as a result employees are facing huge hardships.
