Srinagar, Feb 25: As the PDP and BJP have decided to form the new dispensation in Jammu and Kashmir many officers who were appointed by the ousted NC-Cong regime are on tenterhooks, one among them is the Director Information, who was given the coveted post just a few days before the Model Code of Conduct was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the 2014 Assembly polls.
The incumbent Director Information, who was appointed by the National Conference to help its cause in the recently held Assembly elections, in which NC faced a humiliating defeat, according the sources, is reluctant to pack his bags as he "believes" that some of his well wishers would come forward and help him out. "NC leaders who had managed to get him the top post have reportedly told the incumbent director to look for ways and means to hold on to the post as long as he call manage," they added.
Sources told Early Times that soon after the Assembly polls ended in Jammu and Kashmir the incumbent director issued a circular asking all the Information Department employees to close down the office by 5'o clock and not to wait for other departments to issue the pressnotes and a brief about their daily activity.
"He left no stone unturned to ensure that he keeps the then care-taker chief minister Omar Abdullah happy and prove his loyalty towards the National Conference," said a source.
He said that even after the Governor's rule was imposed in the state, the incumbent director did not mend his ways and kept ignoring the major activities of the various departments who became active after the Governor N N Vohra took over the reins. "We raised the issue of our works not getting enough publicity with the concerned officers of the Information Department but they expressed their helplessness saying that they have to follow the orders of their immediate boss," said an official wishing not to be named.
He said they were clearly told to send the details of their activities well before 5'o clock if they wanted the Information department to release their press notes.
Interestingly, since the day Governor N N Vohra has taken the charge, his press releases are being directly issued by the Raj Bhavan. "It's the duty of the of the state Information department to give due publicity to the activities of the head of the state but the Governor has not relied on the department for doing so," said a source.
He said the Governor did not give any reason for not using the state's Information department but some people are of the opinion that incumbent Director's "doubtful integrity" could be one of the reasons for Governor not relying on the state's official spokesman.
Sources revealed that since the day new director has taken over the employees of the Information department are feeling "choked" as they believe that they are unable to act as a bridge between media organizations and the state. "The dictatorial approach of the incumbent director and NC being ousted from the power are making the director feel that there is no point in highlighting the achievements of the government as NC's defeat has shocked him," they added.
It is in place to mention here that soon after the present Director was appointed many Congress leaders had expressed unhappiness over "controversial man" being given the all important post following which he was removed but he approached the court and managed to get a stay order by virtue of which he is still holding the all important post of the state's official spokesman.
