| After Sajad, Imran Ansari threatens to quit | | Portfolio Row | |

Srinagar, Mar 5: A day after Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone expressed dismay over he being given a "low profile" ministry, another cabinet minister and PDP leader Imran Raza Ansari, who was given the portfolio of Information Technology, technical education and youth services and sports, has expressed unhappiness over the portfolios being given to him and has threatened to quit the council of ministers.
Imran's uncle and senior PDP leader Abid Ansari, who won the recent assembly polls from Zadibal in Srinagar, while talking to Early Timeson Thursday said, "We are not happy with the portfolios which have been given to Imran. Our supporters are advising us to ask Imran to quit the cabinet."
Abid Ansari, brother of late Shia cleric, Moulvi Ifthikar Ansari said, "Our family played a pivotal role in ensuring PDP's win from different areas across the state and we ensured that members of our community vote for the PDP candidates along the length and breadth of the state."
Abid claimed that it was due to the influence of Ansari family that PDP managed to make inroads in the areas which were considered to be the citadels of the National Conference. "It's unfortunate that party top brass has ignored our contribution towards the party's success in the recent assembly polls," he said. "Our family and supporters worked 24x7 to ensure that people are made aware about PDP's agenda."
Asked what's wrong with the ministries which have been given to Imran Ansari, son of late Moulvi Ifthikar Ansari, Abid said, "We were expecting that Imran would be given an important portfolio rather than insignificant ministries. Our supporters have lot of expectations from us. They have voted for us and we have to ensure that we do something for them in return. The ministries which have been given to Imran have got very little scope and most of us believe that we won't be able to help those who ensured our success."
Asked has Imran joined the office, Abid said, "He has taken the charge but people close to our family have advised us to reconsider the decision. Our supporters are feeling betrayed and are of the opinion that PDP leadership has ignored the aspirations of the Shia community."
Sources told Early Times that Ansari's have conveyed their displeasure to the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and have informed him that Imran may quit the cabinet if his supporters want him to do so. "Mufti sahib has tried his best to give representation to all the sections of the society in his cabinet but a few of his ministers are not happy over the portfolios. These are minor issues and would be sorted out along with the passage of time. They are own boys and we will make them understand our compulsions," said a senior PDP leader.
However, Abid Ansari said that final decision about Imran continuing in the new cabinet would be taken after taking all the supporters into confidence. "We have to face the people who made us win and if they decide that Imran should quit we will respect their aspirations and decision," he added. |
