srinagar, Nov 2: The former Chief Minister and National Conference working president Omar Abdullah, who during his six year rule failed to deliver after being ousted from the power usually takes on to twitter to give sermons on governance, unfortunately no one takes his advices and sermons seriously.
On Monday Omar took to the micro blogging site twitter and taunted the incumbent Chief Minister for "intolerance." "Mufti Sayeed is right PM's 7th Nov Srinagar rally will be historic - for the number of people arrested to make the rally possible," Omar wrote on twitter.
"The pandora's box of intolerance that has been opened in the last few months will resonate for long years to come and that is very scary," Omar added.
"It seems Omar has forgotten that when he was the Chief Minister Kashmir witnessed one of the longest shutdowns in the history in 2010 as he was unable to handle the situation and the separatists. Omar's laidback approach allowed the separatists to take the driver's seat and they called the shots. Had Omar anticipated the moves of separatists well in advance Kashmir would not have witnessed bloodshed during his tenure," said a critic.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "When Omar was the Chief Minister he used to take everything lightly. He lacked acumen to anticipate trouble and that usually used to aggravate the situation. During Omar's tenure we saw situation turning from bad to worse on many occasions as he lacked the guts to take an initiative."
He said, "By taking a dig at Mufti, Omar wants to strike a chord with separatists to gain their sympathy."
An official wishing not to be named said: "Mufti sahib takes keen interest in the Home department as he is also the Home Minister. On the contrary Omar during his tenure showed no inclination towards the Home department despite him being the Home Minister of the State. He (Omar) used to brush aside the inputs provided by the intelligence agencies and allowed things to happen."
"It's not for the first time that Omar has poked his nose into a sensitive issue. It seems he is unaware about the fact that separatists are trying to mobilize people for the million march, which has been called by Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and has been supported by the other separatists. Had Government delayed its action, there was every possibility of separatists regrouping their men to ensure that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit is disrupted. By putting separatists behind bars Government has made the first move," the analyst added.
He said that Prime Minister Modi during his forthcoming visit to Jammu and Kashmir is likely to announce a huge financial package for the people of the State. "Government wants to ensure that PM's rally and visit pass off peacefully. At present cash starved JK Government needs funds and it cannot afford any misadventure on anybody's part," he said.
A PDP leader while talking to Early Times said, "Omar should keep his sermons confined to himself. Six years of his misrule spelled doom for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We don't need governance lessons from him. Let him introspect why Kashmir's oldest party had to bite the dust in 2014 Parliamentary and Assembly elections."
