Peoples’ Democratic Party sidelines rebel MPs
Modi's Srinagar Rally
11/3/2015 12:22:38 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 2: At a time when the ruling PDP has engaged its entire team of 'men and machinery' for making adequate arrangements for the ensuing visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Srinagar, party's two founder leaders and the MPs are staying away from this politically exciting scene. The duo have neither been consulted at any level nor involved in any preparations for what appears to be a massive and mammoth political event.
Sources said the two MPs of PDP Muzaffar Hussain Beigh and Tariq Hamid Qarra have not been involved in any respect for November 7 rally for which PDP leadership has huge political stakes. Both the MPs have also not showed any eagerness for the rally nor made any statement so far on PM's visit to state, sources said adding that both are albeit watching every development keenly particularly the engrossment of the party ministers and MLAs in the preparations. While the party leadership is learnt to have directed the MLAs to arrange as many people from their respective constituencies for giving huge strength to the rally organised at cricket stadium in Srinagar, the MPs have not been asked to do so.
Sources said the two leaders who are seasoned in terms of their experience and long association with the party have not been consulted at any level, be it at the political level, organisational level or the party level for the rally which Chief Minister and the PDP as a whole is trying to turn a historic event for many reasons. They have been totally side lined apparently for a purpose, said a party insider, adding that the whole responsibility has been entrusted to a group of ministers close to high command at present. The two MPs, who have been vociferous on certain issues, particularly Tariq Qarra is being seen as a challenge for time to come which is why he is being marginalized for such events that have enormous political ramifications for the ruling party.
On the contrary, sources within the party said that MPs who have their own influence and weightage across the valley, look down upon the group of ministers around the leadership as novices far less experienced in the politics in comparison to them. While Qarra has been issuing bold statements seen as offensive to the spirit of alliance of PDP with BJP, Baig has been maintaining studied silence for some time. Both have however maintained distance from the active affairs of the party.
