Srinagar, Mar 25: After electing Mehbooba Mufti as legislature party leader,PDP is all set to nominate Abdul Rehman Veeri to replace Mehbooba in Lok Sabha while close associates of late Mufti Muhammad Syed are expected to get important portfolios in Mehbooba led Government.
Mehbooba Mufti is a moment away to wear the crown of first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and PDP has to nominate one leader of its party to contest elections on one seat and replace Mehbooba in Lok Sabha to keep alive representation of South Kashmir in Parliament.
One close associate of Mufti family told Early Times that Abdul Rehman Veeri considered as a close associate of former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and founder of PDP, late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed is all set to replace Mehbooba in Lok Sabha.
He said that former Minister for Horticulture Abdul Rehman Veeri may not be inducted in government led by Mehbooba this time for the reasons that party has to contest on one seat from South Kashmir and leadership has no better choice than Veeri.
Sources said that apart from being close to Mufti family,Veeri who emerged from being a little known worker of PDP to dependable PDP leader and Minister in former government led by Mufti Muhammad Sayeed has got his personal vote bank in almost every constituency of South Kashmir and is capable to defeat any leader from opposition parties.
Keeping in view internal bickering prevailing within PDP post demise of Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, sources said that Mufti's close associates are likely to get important portfolios in Mehbooba led government.
They said that some new faces of PDP considered as close associates of Mufti Muhammad Sayeed are in good notes of Mehbooba as well and they may be inducted as cabinet and Deputy to cabinet Ministers.
Sources said that Mehbooba who always contested her Assembly and parliamentary elections from south Kashmir may include many new faces of South Kashmir in her government.
It is for the first time in its history of Jammu and Kashmir that Mehbooba is all set to become the first woman Chief Minister after PDP President was on Thursday elected as Legislators Party leader for state's Lower House.
According to sources the legislatures who attended the meeting chose Mehbooba to be PDP's legislative assembly leader after she held one-on-one meeting with PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Sources said that it was Ab Rehman Veeri who proposed name of Mehbooba Mufti as party leader and his move was seconded by former Roads and Buidlings Minister, Muhammad Altaf Bukhari.
After leaders chose Mehbooba Mufti as leader of legislative party, Mehbooba who is now confirmed to become the first woman Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir thanked party, her lawmakers for electing her as pasty legislative leader.
Mehbooba is ranked neck to neck with successful woman Politicians of country like Sonia Gandhi, Jayalitha, Rabri Devi,Sheela Dikshit and Smriti Irani and Sushma Swaraj. |
