srinagar, Mar 25: As nearly three-month deadlock is ending in J&K with the PDP forming the Government with the BJP, the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has, as per her close aides, has learnt a lot during the tough time.
Party insiders divulged that during the stalemate period, Mehbooba has succeeded in keeping a closer vigil at the functioning of the party and has been able to read much between the lines vis-a-vis the party functioning. They said that the PDP chief, who is all set to assume State's top post within days, has identified true qualities of each leader of the party. Mehbooba has been, as per sources, identified each face within the party and has been successful in identifying the black sheep and those who really care for party's growth. Though she hasn't uttered a word about them but party insiders believe that during the days to come, she would refine the party further and would keep those at bay who are with the party merely for the sake of power and luxuries. "It is during the turbulent times that a person gets a clearer picture of things around. Since the death of her father- Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, intentions of various party leaders, functionaries and workers came to fore. It was Mehbooba who was monitoring everything- almost everything within the party," sources said.
The PDP-BJP coalition, after 10 months rule from March 2015 to January this year, ran into rough weather following the death of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
He died in a hospital in Delhi on January 7 following which the State came under Governor's rule the next day.
Meanwhile there are reports that during the period of logjam, the PDP chief was continuously being appraised about the movements of her party leaders and also about who has been meeting whom behind the closed doors. There were reports of some party leaders ready to join hands with the BJP that too at a time when PDP was in parleys with the party for the formation of new Government. The BJP leaders in the past had revealed that the party is in constant touch with those PDP leaders who want peoples' Government to be formed in the State. The statements of such nature had sent clear signals across about the possible defection.
Some party leaders had also remained vocal against Mehbooba's 'stubbornness' in re-aligning with the BJP during the stalemate period.
Furthermore, now when the PDP is all set to form the new Government in the State, there are speculations ripe that this coalition will have Mehbooba's overall command and control. After being elected as the LP leader for the party, Mehbooba told press that door will be shown to some previous Ministers as she would chose her Cabinet. Sources said that those leaders will have to witness tough days who deserted the PDP chief during the most crucial days of her life.
