Govt Hospital Gandhi Nagar without essential medicines, Poor patients in dock 6/14/2016 11:25:58 PM Arun Singh Early Times Report Jammu, June 14: The tall claims of Government of providing free drugs to the patients in government hospitals have fallen flat. Patients admitted in emergency wards of Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar have to purchase primary medicines administered to them from market due to their non availability in stock. The failure of government in providing primary medicines to the patients in emergency ward is a sheer violation of 'Right to Health' which is entitled to every human under constitution. A twelve year girl, having acute pain in her abdomen, was admitted in Gandhi Nagar hospital on June 11, 2016 during late night hours. Doctor after examining her prescribed the medicines to be administered to her in emergency but the attendants were shocked when medical staff in the emergency room refused to provide basic medicines and asked them to purchase from medical shop in the hospital. "When we asked the reason for not providing the basic medicines (fluids and drugs), the staff said the stock have been lifted as some medicines were found sub-standard a month back and due to non availability of new stock of medicines, the patients are forced to buy these medicines from their own pocket," said the attendants, while narrating their ordeal. Sources further informed that over a month back, many cases of patients having reaction with the medicines being administered to them in the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu had surfaced subsequently the administration removed the stock of medicines. Similarly the medicines were also removed from all other associated hospitals as a result the patients have been forced to purchase medicine from their own expense. Although, the government had released the Rs 10 crore for purchase of medicines to provide them in all hospitals but the non availability of these basic medicines in the hospitals depicts the other aspect of hospital management.
