Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 14: As Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is scheduled to visit University of Jammu to inaugurate newly constructed examination block, Vice chancellor is over stepping his domain and casting aspersions on the vision of former Chief Minister Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed with regards to establishment of off campuses of the universities of the state in order to avail opportunities of higher education to the students living in the peripheral areas of the state.
In an interview given to a local channel few days ago, video clips of which have been posted on VC's Facebook page, he has raised questions on the decision to open off campuses terming them as decision taken in haste. VC's comment is a clear overstepping of his domain wherein he has raised aspersions on the political decision taken by the state Cabinet when Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was the Chief Minister and implemented when Ghulam Nabi Azad replaced him during PDP-Congress coalition Government. "The establishment of off campuses in peripheral areas was a historic decision that helped many students pursue higher education who otherwise could never have thought of doing so due to disadvantages of their geographical locations" said a senior professor of JU.
VC also came out open in criticizing regime of former Vice Chancellor and now advisor to the Chief Minister Amitabh Mattoo, who is also in the list of invited guests in Wednesday's function on the campus. In an obvious reference to Matto's regime, VC said in his interview, "lest I speak more, some ten years ago, over 700 employees were appointed in JU without proper approval", obviously implying that these appointments were made compromising laid rules.
It is pertinent to mention here that even the adversaries of Prof. Amitabh Mattoo admit that his tenure as VC JU was the most illustrious periods of University of Jammu, during which JU made remarkable progress in diversified fields. "While other VCs sit over the cases of promotion, regularization and other issues of the employees for years, Amitabh Mattoo regularized the services of security staff, class IV employees and other adhoc employees who were facing exploitation for years" said an office bearer of the JU's non teaching staff union.
Meanwhile, ET reliably learnt that Dy Chief Minister, Prof. Nirmal Singh, who has also been invited to the function is yet to take final call on his participation. "He may stay away from the function to express his resentment against the vilification campaign initiated by the VC against the ABVP and against the scholars of Dr. Nirmal Singh" said a close aide of the Dy CM.
