Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, June 29: The state government was today caught napping by the opposition legislators over the prevailing security scenario in the Assembly. The continuous pressure forced the government to eat a humble pie and it agreed to give a statement on the issue on Thursday.
As the House was busy with the zero hour, National Conference legislator stood up and raised the issue of war 'hysteria' created by the legislators of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) following the militant attack at Pampore in last week.
The NC legislator said that state government is non-serious on the issue and they are not issuing any statement on the security scenario in the state. He while quoting some of the media reports said that the security scenario is not normal and it has sent shock waves among the people of state. He said the government should not shy away from its responsibility and give a statement so that confidence is inculcated among the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
The NC legislator was joined by some of his colleagues and they too joined the demand of government statement on the security issue. These legislators said that inaction from the government in this regard would send a negative signal with people feeling insecure.
While the NC legislators were raising their point Deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh stood up and tried to pacify the opposition legislators.
He said the security scenario is not only the concern of the state, but also of the country. He said the state government is in touch with the central government over this issue and all efforts to create disturbance in the state would be sabotaged.
The deputy CM said that the state government is taking all the measures to ensure that nobody plays with the peace and tranquility of the state.
He said since Amarnath Yatra is due to start in the coming days the state government is taking extra measures to deal with the situation.
He said the government is also aware about the importance of peace since many tourists are in state with many more due to come in coming months.
Deputy CM's reply failed to satisfy the opposition legislators and they stick to their demand that government should issue a statement on the issue. Leader of opposition Omar Abdullah said that government should take the House into confidence sine the legislators are responsible people. He said the people are getting information from media instead from the people at helm.
Omar took a dig at chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and said that the CM is not taking the House seriously by remaining absent from the Assembly. He said there are reports that Road Opening Party (ROP) of CRPF is being replaced by army while as CRPF is being replaced by BSF.
The leader of opposition said that people want to know answers about the same and it is possible when the government issues a statement on the security scenario.
He said the people living in the border areas are worried and the statement would settle their nerves. Following this the deputy CM said that a statement on the security scenario would be made in the house on Thursday.
