Running short of ideas, Hurriyat repeats previous week’s protest calendar

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 7: Running out of ideas to keep the Kashmir pot boiling, the united Hurriyat has issued the fresh protest calendar, which resembles the anti-national roaster for the previous week.
Sources in the united Hurriyat said the separatists could not arrive to any consensus over issuance of new calendar which was announced on October 6 for another week, and that because of "confusion" the previous week schedule for relaxation was announced again.
The people dealing with business in Kashmir have ridiculed at the wisdom of the Hurriyat leaders, who even failed to offer a different pattern of relaxation in the protest calendar than to talk of giving any solution.
"The relaxation for Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday is exactly the same as it was for the previous week. Couldn't they think any different? This has only exposed their wisdom," said a prominent businessman pleading anonymity.
While the separatists have failed to give respite to people from prolonged protests, people have already started taking to the streets.
On October 6, transporters publicly protested against Syed Ali Geelani in Lal Chowk saying he had failed to think of their livelihood and that their families were suffering from starvation.
The united Hurriyat is into infighting over issuance of protest calendar.
While Hurriyat G Chairman Syed Ali Geelani is unilaterally issuing protest calendars, the Hurriyat (M) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, whose heads are under detention, are not being taken into confidence.
On the other hand business delegations who visit Geelani's residence have been seeking extension in relaxation and restoration of normalcy.
Earlier this week a delegation of transporters had visited Geelani's residence pleading that he was only concerned about shopkeepers and that those dealing with transport were ignored outright.
The transporters had told Geelani that since July 8, when protests erupted in the wake of killing of militant commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani and his two colleagues, the Hurriyat had not announced a single hour of relaxation for buses, cabs and auto rickshaws. While some auto-rickshaws defied hartal, two such vehicles were torched by miscreants.
A fortnight back government had asked Hurriyat to announce protest calendar for a year than to "confuse and provoke people on weekly basis."
For the past three months the separatists have been issuing protest calendars, which are preventing restoration of normalcy in Kashmir. The government has been trying to break the calendar.
