Chenab valley witness heavy snowfall, power supply restored in City areas

Jammu, Feb 13: Like in other parts of the state, Kishtwar, Ramban and Doda Districts also witnessed rain and snowfall as a result of which the cold wave engulfed the whole area while majority of the area witnessed electricity black out as well due to ongoing snowfall.
As per the details available with "Early Times" Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas witnessed massive snowfall during last intervening night while areas like Bhunzwah, Chatroo, Padder, Nagsni of Kishtwar District, Gundow, Bhaderwah, Marmat and other areas of Doda District also witnessed heavy to moderate snowfall and thus brings an end to long dry spell. Similarly major areas of Ramban District of Chenab valley also witnessed heavy snowfall as a result of which the traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was stopped by the authorities due to slippery condition of the road. The traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway will remain close for tomorrow as well due to slippery condition of the road as well as due accumulation of snow around Jawhar tunnel, however the authorities said that the final decision with regard to allowing any traffic will be taken after assessing the condition of the road.
The official sources informed that the traffic on Kishtwar-Jammu National Highway was allowed by the authorities today as the road witness no major blockade due to snowfall and the continuous rains, but the authorities had decided to suspend the traffic of Kishtwar-Jammu National Highway till 8 AM in the morning added that the final decision with regard to vehicular movement on Kishtwar-Jammu and other local link roads will be allowed after accessing the road condition subjected to the snow clearance. Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana also held a detail meeting with the officials of various departments and directed the R&B Officials to put man and machinery for snow clearance where ever reqw. He also directed the Power Development Department Officials to take speedy remedial measures to restore the electricity in the Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas, beside also directed the officials and the HODs not to leave the station without his permission. He asked the police to brief him about the situation in far flung areas on hourly bases and had also order for establishment of disaster management cell at DC Office Kishtwar. He also takes stock of essential commodities and availability of medicines and directed all the allied departments to work in coordination for effective services to be delivered to the people due to the situation aroused after snowfall.
The power in many city areas of Chenab Valley has been restored, but majority of the rural areas are still with out electricity.
The restoration work was going on at war footing bases after sun blazes through out day today in many parts of the three Districts.
Meanwhile a house belongs to one Omi Devi w/o late Roop Chand, resident of Sigdi Nanzla, Tehsil Mughal Maidan.
No major report of damage was received from any part of the Chenab Valley till the filling of this news report.
