KVK organises five days long training programme on Organic Farming

Reasi, Feb 15: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised five days long training on organic farming here at Organic Training Centre, Talwara of Reasi district of J&K under Pt Deen Dayal Upadhaya Unnat Krishi Shiksha Yojana to support organic farming initiatives in the region.
In this programme KVK, Reasi trained the 2nd batch of 30 farmers on organic agriculture from the different areas of Jammu province who enthusiastically participated in the innovative programme.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr.P K Sharma and Associate Director Extension (ADE) & Incharge of all the KVKs, Dr.R K Arora of SKUAST-J.
The programme was sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi to promote the organic farming for the better life and safe environment. Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal deliberated on scientific organic crops production. He elaborated the use of different organic inputs for use in organic agriculture like organic manures, neem cake, neem oil, castor cake, Panchgavaya, fermented butter milk, Beejamrit, Jeevamrit, cow urine, himsol, agnihotra etc. He stressed on the crops rotation and leguminous crops to increase the fertility of soil.
He also added that the various diseases, insects-pests and weeds can be managed by the crops rotation, sowing times and organic inputs. He encouraged the farmers by giving the success stories of some organic crops entrepreneurs in the region.
The chief guest of the programme, DSP J&K Police, Dr. Satish Bardwaz said that with the haphazard use of chemicals not only the mankind but the whole environment have been adversely affected. He further added that organic farming is a holistic production management system that excludes the use of synthetic chemical inputs including animals feed additives and promotes eco-friendly methods for crops cultivation and food processing.
Dr. Amrinder Kumar stressed on the use of vermicompost which is rich in plant nutrients and suggested the farmers that it should be used to protect the soil health which further will help to produce the healthy crops.
He explained the method of preparation of vermicompost and other organic inputs and explained their importance in the organic farming.
