DKPs (Non Camps) protest over non-inclusion of names in Municipal electoral rolls | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 13: Displaced Kashmiri Pandits (DKP Non Camps) today staged a protest demonstration against the non-existence of their names in the Municipal electoral rolls here at Jammu. The protesters said that the Kashmiri Pandit community members have left the valley during 1990 due to disturbances and failure of both the Central and State Governments in maintaining law & order situation in the valley. Since a considerable period of 28 years has elapsed but the government is not in a position to rehabilitate the displaced KPs in the valley, as such the community people have constructed their houses in Jammu and are residing here since 1990, waiting for the Government decision to rehabilitate us back in the valley, they said. The protesters said that the Local Bodies exercise their powers and their resources in the best interests of the local community. The elected body maintains civic amenities in their area of responsibility for the people who are physically residing in the area. As the Kashmiri Pandits are physically residing in Jammu, hence they are fully entitled to elect their Municipal Corporators at Jammu in their respective wards. The Displaced Kashmiri Pandits (Non Camps) appealed the Governor and Chief Electoral Officer J&K to act quickly to correct this situation and issue suitable orders to the concerned authorities so as to ensure that all the bonafide voters are included in the electoral list to enable the displaced community to participate in the upcoming Munincipal elections at Jammu. |
