After calling new counselors 'rouges,' PDP desperate to own them
Double Speak!
10/22/2018 10:49:41 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 22: After boycotting the municipal polls in Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party is reportedly making an attempt to own the newly elected independent counselors in Srinagar so that it can have a say in mayoral election.
Sources told Early Times that many newly elected counselors have got calls from the PDP office and they are being told that the party president wants to meet them.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "It's strange that on one hand the former chief minister and the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has described the newly elected counselors as "rogue" elements, who have been lured by money, and on the other hand she is trying to establish contact with them so that she can have a say on mayoral election."
He said that PDP is apprehending that Peoples Conference led by Sajad Lone may dominate the Srinagar municipality as Lone has claimed that most of the independent candidates are actually the PC candidates and the former NC spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu, who said goodbye to NC, would be the next Mayor of Srinagar.
A politician said that Mehbooba Mufti is indulging in "double speak" on one hand she is questioning the credibility of the newly elected counselors while on the other hand she is making all the possible attempts to control the new counselors. "PDP has realized that by boycotting municipal elections the party made a mistake. Now it's trying to control the damage by entering into negotiations with the new counselors. Somehow PDP wants to keep the Peoples Conference at bay as Sajad Lone has already announced that the independent candidates who have won the elections are affiliated with his party," he added.
It's in place to mention here that Mehbooba Mufti in an interview to a national daily said that municipal polls could lead to problems in the future. "Unfortunately, not many good people came forward to fight this election because of the peculiar situation, which will have far-reaching consequences in future. Most of them were lured by money," she said.
Reacting to her allegation Sajad Lone took to the twitter and wrote: "If they don't contest then contestants are rogues and lured by money. And then in the same breath Mehbooba Ji talks about democracy. Selective democracy for the elites."
Lone also claimed that Mehbooba has met many of these contestants whom she calls rogue and lured by money. "Btw one example @Junaid_Mattu is much more qualified than you Mam," Lone wrote on the twitter.
A Kashmir watcher said that PDP is desperate to make a comeback as it knows that PDP rebels and the Peoples Conference led by Sajad Lone are emerging as stiff opponents and if they succeed in their endeavors PDP led by Mehbooba Mufti would be left at the cross roads.
