Govt withdraws security of 18 Hurriyat leaders, 155 political persons
2/20/2019 11:11:16 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb. 20, 2019 : Continuing with its crackdown on separatist leaders in Kashmir the state government led by Governor Satya Pal Malik today downgraded security of more than a dozen separatists. Security has also been downgraded with respect to at least two lower rung mainstream leaders.
The government downgraded and withdrew the security of 18 Hurriyat leaders in the state. According to a spokesperson of Home Department, it was felt that providing security to these separatist leaders is wastage of scarce state resources which could be better utilized elsewhere.
"Among the leaders whose security has been downgraded and withdrawn are SAS Geelani, Aga Syed Mosvi, Maulvi Abbas Ansari, Yaseen Malik, Saleem Geelani, Shahid-ul-Islam, Zaffar Akbar Bhat, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Farooq Ahmed Kichloo, Masroor Abbas Ansari, Aga Syed Abul Hussain, Abdul Gani Shah and Mohammad Musadiq Bhat," said the spokesperson.
The spokesperson said that this is in addition to the four persons whose security was withdrawn on Sunday last. In addition, the security of 155 political persons and activists, who did not require the security provided to them based on their threat assessment and their activities, was also withdrawn. This includes Shah Faesal, who resigned from the IAS and Wahid Parra. Through this, over 1000 police personnel and over 100 vehicles are freed to do regular police work.
While Faesal is yet to enter any party as such or float his own political party, Parra is a youth leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Parra had last year complained that he was attacked by militants in the Central Kashmir's Budgam district.
It would be in place to mention here that on February 17 (Sunday) security was withdrawn with respect to separatist leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Professor Abdul Gani Bhat, Bilal Gani Lone and Hashim Qureshi. The security vehicles allotted in favour of these separatists have also been withdrawn with immediate orders from this evening only.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh had on Friday last asked the security agencies to review security of separatists since they are receiving funds and other encouragement from Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan. He was in town to review security following February 14 Fidayeen attack on CRPF convoy at Lethpora on Srinagar-Jammu national highway. In the incident 49 CRPF personnel lost their lives and the attack was condemned widely across the globe.
