Sanitation major issue for residents of Rampura area of Gandhinagar
6/25/2019 12:22:03 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 23: The well known proverb that 'Cleanliness is next to Godliness' seems nowhere in sight in Rampura area of Gandhinagar where residents are up in arms against the local leaders for ignoring their areas regarding sanitation. Drains remain dirty, blocked while the garbage is scattered in the lanes which continue to create nuisance for them all the time but the concerned authority never pay heed to their grievances.
The residents of Rampura, which has hundreds of residential house informed Munish Gupta during his mass contact programme about the problems. They raised the main problems of insanitation which is being faced by them. They alleged that the safaikaramcharies hardly visit their area and the problem continues to be aggravated.
"Whenever rain comes, we spend sleepless night as water in drain gushes into our house due to faulty drainage system. Moreover, the rainy season is around the corner and the problem will multiply manifold due to its blockage," lamented Sushama Gupta, Nirmal Gupta of Rampura.
The drains get choked as they have not been covered with grills at many places due to which polythenes fall into it, the tiles are broken since long time and despite complaints nothing has been done till date, said Shashi Sharma.
"The height of negligence can be gauged from the fact that we have got deployed a private sweeper and we have to pay him monthly salary from our pocket. Cleanliness is the biggest problem of entire area," said Sunita, Veena Sharma.
"I purchased a house few years ago and shifted into it but insanitation has made our life hell and I regret all the time for buying house here. Every morning we wake up we see garbage, filth, foul smell which makes us irritable. No safaicharamchari visits here to clean the lanes and drains," said Kanchan Kour.
Another issue which came to light in Rampura was the irritable noise and air pollution from Gen Set installed by the some residents in the lanes making the life of the people living in neighbourhood impossible. "We lodged our protest against this menace with them and asked them to remove it from the lane but instead of taking corrective measure, the main culprit came to fight with us, which is serious violation as per law but authority has turned deaf ears," said Surjeet Kour, while castigating the local councilor.
Meanwhile, the other residents also raised the issues of lack of sanitation. "The drains are dilapidated and broken due to which rats have created menace making life difficult," said Goutam, Neeraj Gupta, Subash Chander, Saleem Mohammad, Aashwani, Sakeena and Ashok Kumar.
