Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 24: Even as the police claim to have brought situation under control in Kashmir, militant recruitment is “gaining momentum” putting the security forces on tenterhooks.
Sources said after the Balakote airstrike on Pakistan in February, around 50 Kashmiri youth have joined militancy.
Sources said the matter was brought to the notice of Governor SP Malik at the recently held high command meeting chaired by him.
Sources said the Governor looks ahead to evolve a strategy to prevent youth from joining militancy.
It was reliably learnt that the matter would be brought to the notice of Home Minister Amit Shah during his scheduled visit to Kashmir next week.
Sources said many such youth had gone missing from their homes in the last few months but subsequently appeared in purported pictures and videos on the social media.
Apart from south Kashmir, the said recruitment is on in the north Kashmir as well.
Sources said at least two youth have picked up guns in Baramulla district of north Kashmir that was seen as a largely peaceful.
Sources said Adnan Ahmad Channa son of Ali Muhammad of Arampora Azad Gunj Baramulla was missing for the last two months.
His purported picture, wearing an Army uniform and brandishing assault rifle has gone viral on social media.
Sources in police department said the said militant has been codenamed as Saifullah bhai and is understood to have joined the militant outfit in the middle of June.
Prior to him picture of Junaid Farooq, another youth from same Baramulla district was viral for having joined Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.
Last week, atleast three youth have reportedly joined militancy in south Kashmir.
Sources said two of them are from Pulwama district where the deadly car bomb had exploded in February.
”New recruits are joining militancy and it’s a matter of concern,” said a police official on the condition of anonymity.
