MeT predicts rain, snow over J&K during next 24 hrs

SRINAGAR, Apr 18: Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Thursday predicted widespread rain and light snow over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
The MeT office said the weather will generally remain cloudy with light to moderate rain and light snow over higher reaches at most places, coupled with thunder, from this evening to late Friday.
The weather is very likely to remain generally dry from April 21 to April 25, but afternoon thundershowers activity can't be ruled out as there is a possibility of light rain with thunder at many places during April 26 and 27.
The day and night temperatures improved in the Kashmir Valley and were recorded above normal.
The minimum temperature recorded at Srinagar during the intervening nights of Wednesday and Thursday was 12.5 degree Celsius against the 9.4 degree Celsius. It was 4.6 degree Celsius above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.
The day temperature was 1.4 degree Celsius above the normal of 21.1 degree Celsius in Srinagar recorded on the previous day.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 7.2 degree Celsius against the 2.1 degree Celsius the previous night, and it was 3.8 degree Celsius above normal for south Kashmir's tourist spot. It also received 0.4mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours, the MeT office said.
Kupwara had a low of 10.9 degree Celsius against 6.2 degree Celsius recorded a day ago, and it was 4.1 degree Celsius above normal for the frontier north Kashmir district.
Gulmarg settled at 3.2 degree Celsius against the 1.6 degree Celsius on the previous night, and it was 0.9 degree Celsius above normal for the ski resort in north Kashmir's Baramulla district. The ski resort also received 0.2mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours, the MeT office said.
