CUJ organizes Thursday mind meet

JAMMU, Apr 25: The Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu, organised a panel discussion on the theme “Transforming the Role of Teachers and Teacher Educators on the Light of NEP-2020” under ‘Thursday Mind Meet’: a platform initiated by the Central University of Jammu for academic discourses on various themes. The event was organized in the Pt. Malviya Shiksha Bhavan under the patronage of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Jammu Prof. Sanjeev Jain and the Head of the Department (HOD) Prof. Asit K. Mantry.
The key panelists and resource persons were Prof. Madhu Singh, Principal, M.C. Khalsa College of Education, Jammu, Prof. Vandana Sharma, Head of Department of English and Convener of ‘Thursday Mind Meet’, CUJ, research scholars and students. The greeting remarks were given by Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Dean of Students’ Welfare CUJ, who initiated the discussion on the key theme and emphasized the all-round development of the teachers and teacher educators.
Prof. Vandana Sharma talked about various perspectives laid down by the NEP-2020 and highlighted the present system of education which is moving from a multi-disciplinary approach to a trans-disciplinary approach, whereas Prof. Madhu Singh talked about creating a team of teachers with requisite skills and knowledge to create competent teachers. She termed every teacher as a ‘research scholar’ and posed different questions for discussion. The discussion was further taken up by the student penalties which included Mr, Sourabh Sharma (Senior Research Scholar), Mr. Vivek Singh and Mr. Achyutam (M.Ed. Students), and Ms. Samriti and Kumar Sourabh (B.A. B.Ed. Students), followed by a 15-minutes Question-Answer session. The entire panel discussion covered a wide range of topics like ICT in Teaching, the Role of Teachers in the Holistic Development of students and the ancient Indian knowledge system and how it should be inculcated in the present scenario.
On this occasion, Prof. J.N Baliya,Dr. Kiran, Dr. Aman, Dr. Jai Bhawani, other faculty, research scholars and students of Educational Studies were present. A vote of thanks was presented by the Head of the Department, Prof. Asit K. Mantry, who stated how the Sri Aurobindo philosophy can revolutionize the education system in India. He also stressed how the enthusiasm and participation of students towards learning through such literary activity becomes the success of the Department, University, and of Nation at large.
