| People accuses doctor of abandoning patients for sake of private practice | |    |  ASIF IQBAL NAIK

JAMMU, Dec 1: The people of Malanoo who are dependent on Public Health Center (PHC) Malanoo in Medical Block Thathri accuses the doctor posted there of abandoning the poor patients for the sake of private practice.
The locals said that the delinquent doctor is indulging in private practice despite clear cut directions of High Court in September this year wherein it said that doctors cannot be permitted to use their employment and public facilities for building private practices and commercial exploitation with the observations that “Doctors spend most of their time in private clinics and are not available in the hospitals.”
As per the details available with “Early Times”, one Ashraf Hussain lodged written complaint before Block Medical Officer Thathri as well as with the Deputy Commissioner Doda alleging that due to the greed of the doctor, his mother who suffered a massive heart attack had to be shifted to Government Medical College Jammu, adding that after his mother fell ill, they took her to PHC Malanoo during the intervening night of 26 and 27 November but the doctor refused to provide her the treatment forcing them to shift the patient to Doda from where she was later shifted to Jammu where she was successfully operated by the doctors.
The complainant said that had the doctor provided her the treatment at right time she would not have undergone through the mental trauma she is presently experiencing, adding that they not only suffered pain and agony, but had to suffer financial losses as well since the treatment on her mother costs around Rs 2 lakhs.
He said that the doctor known with name Arshad Kashmiri mostly remain confined to his private practice at local medical shop even during duty hours and further said that the said doctor didn’t bother to attend his duties regularly and even gives deaf ear to the repeated requests made by the poor people.
The complaint also carried the signatures of the local Sarpanchs as well as that of prominent personalities of the area demanding action against the doctor.
When contacted, Block Medical Officer Thathri Dr Gansham Singh said that the inquiry has been initiated against the erring doctor.
“After receiving the complaint, I took up the matter with Chief Medical Officer Doda who had ordered to constitute an inquiry committee to probe into the allegations leveled against the doctor,” BMO Thathri told Early Times. | | |
