BJP ‘double-minded’ to act against ‘potential’ rebels

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 1: Smelling that some rebels will emerge victorious in the ongoing District Development Councils (DDCs) elections, BJP is undecided to take action against leaders contesting elections against official party candidates.
There is a view among party leaders that after the elections, these rebels would help the party to capture DDCs in some areas so BJP leadership is reluctant to take against those who have potential to win the elections.
Highly placed sources said that some party leaders raised the issue of taking action against rebels but the party has deferred the decision to take action against them.
Sources said many BJP leaders, including some office-bearers, have been contesting the DDCs elections as rebels against the official nominees in different parts of Jammu. “Some block and district committees are openly supporting rebel candidates in many areas thus creating embarrassment for the party,” a senior BJP leader, wishing anonymity, told Early Times.
While some BJP leaders are themselves contesting elections against official party candidates, some of them have fielded their family members as rebels.
Earlier during Block Development Councils (BDCs) polls, BJP had adopted a similar policy by not taking action against potential candidates who were denied mandates.
During BDCs elections many rebel party candidates emerged victorious from different areas and later re-joined the party.
