Jammu, Nov 28: After en-mass resignations of his loyalists from positions of the party, leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad has now shifted his focus on Kashmir Valley to show his strength to Congress high command.
After covering all regions and sub-regions during the last 15 days, Azad has now activated his loyalists in the Kashmir Valley to intensify his mass contact programme.
Highly placed sources leaders of the faction headed by Ghulam Ahmed Mir are trying to give an impression to the high command that Azad’s influence is confined only to some areas of Jammu province.
“Mir loyalists conveyed to the high command that sidelining and ignoring Azad is not going to put any impact on party’s performance in Kashmir Valley”, sources said and added that the anti-Azad faction is mounting pressure on the high command not to give much importance to ex-leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
After kick-starting his mass-contact programme from the Devsar area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, Azad has apparently launched a counteroffensive against Pradesh Congress Committee chief G A Mir, who is a native of South Kashmir.
“Now the focus has been shifted in Kashmir Valley. We will try to show our strength to G A Mir in his home turf”, a loyalist of Azad told the Early Times.
Wishing anonymity, the Azad loyalist said, “We want to show our strength to the high command because central leadership is not taking our faction seriously”.
“We have already finalized a series of programmes in different areas of Kashmir Valley in the coming days”, he said and revealed that Ghulam Nabi Azad will address rallies in the Valley. | | |
