BJP's Satyagraha a step for right cause

Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 5: Even as there is no murmur, not to speak of any reaction from some ever reactive and impulsive leaders of ruling National Conference over the state BJP president's 48 hour fast against corruption , JKCA scam in particular, the gesture , perhaps first of its kind initiated by any political party in the state for a cause is being seen a right step in present political scenario of the state where ruling elite and both allies are deeply embedded in charges of corruption and malpractices.
The moot point is will it make any Impact on the quarters against whom it was aimed to hit the nail…..will Farooq Abdullah ever budge from the stand he took from the beginning in this scam in washing off his hands completely and pushing the ball in lap of people down the JKCA hierarchy.
BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas started his fast on Oct 2 in what he called it as 'Satyagraha', while choosing an appropriate day for starting it. The Satyagraha, as he explained was aimed to highlight the rampant corruption and scams in the state in general and Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) scam in particular as it involves persons occupying highest positions in ruling hierarchy. The target apparently in this novel move was NC and hitting its patron Dr Farooq Abdullah, against whom the fingers were raised when the scam came to fore early this year.
The party leadership did not raise this issue for the first time or in sudden compulsive mode. Pertinently, when the issue rocked the state political scene, BJP was the first party in opposition to demand the case be handed over to CBI, something to which the coalition government never gave ear, leave alone conceding the demand. The contention of BJP leaders in raking up this issue and targeting Dr Abdullah genuinely so, was that the JKCA had been under the control of him for the past several years and instead of serving its purpose of promoting cricket in the state, it has become a den of misappropriation of funds by a handful of individuals, something which he as head had remained conveniently oblivious or completely complacent.
Be that as it may appear when would the real truth come out no one knows. However, BJP state president concluded his fast on an assertive note reiterating demand of the party that Dr Farooq Abdullah must resign on moral grounds as union minister and that the party shall continue with agitation on issue till the matter reaches some logical conclusion in terms of meaningful probe.
One thing is amply clear that by taking this initiative in somewhat novel way, state unit of BJP has tried to project itself on lines of the central leadership which has been quite vocal against issues of corruption at the central level.
And second more importantly, it has tried to remove the tag often attached with some leaders that they are sympathizers of Abdullah family and NC in particular.
