Congress conspiring against General VK Singh?
Moves afoot to demoralize Army
9/24/2013 11:59:18 PM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sep 24: The Congress and the minority UPA Government has been conspiring against former General VK Singh for quite sometime now. This is what General Singh says. Why are the Congress and the UPA doing so and demonizing General Singh? Some of the reasons are as follows:-
General Singh had specifically named the "Adarsh lobby" (of Adarsh Housing scam, Mumbai) for maligning his name because he had held out a promise and ordered a detailed inquiry into the Adrash scam. The scam had culminated in the resignation of Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and created an awkward situation for a number of former Generals, including General Kapur, who were allegedly involved in the scam. The inquiry had exposed their misdeeds and dubious acts.
It was general V K Singh who also made public that he was offered Rs 14 crore for clearing 600 sub-standard vehicles of a particular company.
General V K Singh, an upright general and a committed nationalist whose contribution to the national cause in Jammu & Kashmir was just spectacular, had written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in which he had, among other things, said that bulk of the country's defence equipment was "obsolete" and that the Indian armed forces were "woefully short" of weapons. Some vested interests and his enemies within the Army had leaked this secret letter. A leading national daily wrote a story on it.
The decorated General, after his superannuation, made common cause with Anna Hazare and joined the anti-corruption crusade. He not only joined the anti-corruption crusade but also demanded dissolution of the Parliament so that the people could elect a new Lok Sabha.
The General participated in a protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, which was led by Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev. The Yoga Guru had organized the protest to express solidarity with the family of Damini, who was gang raped in December 2012, and take on the Congress and the UPA Government for their failure to establish law and order.
The General shared the dais with Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 general election during his ex-servicemen massive rally in Rewari, Haryana, on September 15.
These were some the actions that angered the Congress and the UPA and, hence, a campaign against him. It was not the first occasion that the Congress and the UPA Government targeted General V K Singh and tried to harm him. Earlier, the UPA Government had involved the General in a date of birth case and made him fight his case in the Supreme Court. That the UPA Government was biased against him could be seen from the fact that the similar case of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was sorted out at the lowest level. The date of birth of Manmohan Singh controversy was sorted out just by an affidavit.
The Congress and the UPA must stop smear campaign against General V K Singh in the larger national interest. They must remember that they are demoralizing and demonizing the institution of Army by targeting General V K Singh and accusing him of misusing money for toppling the Omar Abdullah-led controversial coalition government.
