SRINAGAR, Sept 25: Former Army Chief, General VK Singh's revelations have caused a dent in Agriculture Minister, Ghulam Hassan Mir's party. Reports revealed that 1000 workers deserted a shocked Mir. Pertinent to mention Mir on Wednesday offered himself for a free and time-bound probe.
The party workers including the candidates who contested assembly elections in 2008 on the mandate of JKDPN said that it is high time they should make their position clear among the general public as they are being targeted publically for being associated with a political leader who has allegedly grabbed Rs 1.19 crore from the army and is not ready to resign voluntarily despite tremendous pressure from various quarters.
Talking to early times, Chief party organizer and senior party member of JKDPN, Haji Mohammad Abdullah who has himself contested 2008 assembly elections on the mandate of JKDPN said that he along with his more than 1000 party workers are resigning from the party keeping in view the tremendous criticism to the JKDPN from all the political parties of Jammu and Kashmir and to the party workers as well following the important revelation made by the former Army chief of the country V.K singh against Ghulam Hassan Mir.
"I want a through independent probe in to the allegations against Ghulam Hassan Mir so that the image of all the people associated with JKDPN presently could be saved from maligning in future and their political could be saved" said Haji Mohammad Abdullah
On this occasion hundreds of other party works while expressing their anguish said that they cannot put their lives in any kind of risk as the party chief is alleged to have received crores of rupees from the Army over the years. Sources within the JKDPN said that Mir funded 33 people to contest 2008 assembly elections among which prominent faces include Abdul Salam Reshi, Nazir Ahmad Kahan, Ghulam Nabi Mir, Abdul Rashid of Tral area, Nazir Ahmad Khan and Farooq Ahmad Jan and managed to pay everybody a fair amount to meet the campaigning expenses besides boarding and lodging of other workers was also managed by the party chief himself.
One candidate who contested election from North Kashmir said that he was paid Rs 20,000 before the campaigning and after demanding more funds to meet the expenses during the campaigning process, however some members of the party very close Ghulam Hassan Mir conveyed wrong messages to the party chief resulting in to sell his property assets and meet the campaigning expenses.
Party workers said that almost all the party workers including those who contested assembly elections of 2008 on JKDPN mandate have already left the party and are not associated with JKDPN.
Worthy to note that despite being the fact that many among the resigned workers had contested assembly election of 2008 on JKDPN mandate, Ghulam Hassan Mir while talking to early times said that none among the resigning members belong to his party and he does not know whether his party has any workers in north Kashmir.
