Srinagar, Nov 29: J&K High Court today directed Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a three-year-old from the Srinagar city's Habbakadal area five years ago. Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar directed the Crime Branch to hand over the case to CBI after the state investigating agency presented the case diaries to the court. Uncle of missing boy has filed a petition before the High Court seeking CBI investigation into the matter. The Crime Branch had submitted its report in the court of Passenger Tax Magistrate recently and declared the case as 'untraceable'. High Court directed the Crime Branch to hand over all the records including case diaries to the CBI. The premier investigating agency of the country was also directed to file a status report after the vacations of the court are over in January. Pertinently Mehran went missing on May 13, 2008 when he went out to buy candies from a nearby shop in Habba Kadal. Since then his whereabouts are not known. On the fateful day, Mehran had just returned home from Canny Mission School, when he asked his mother Dilruba to give him some money to buy candies from the shop, which the kid would frequent. The mother, a cancer patient, gave him Rs five to buy candies. The little boy rushed out of his home in congested locality and went missing since then it has been a 'mystery.' Five years ago, the disappearance of the little boy drew instant spotlight as his family and subsequently the schoolmates staged protests against the Jammu and Kashmir Police for failing to crack the case and demanding case to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI).
