Hundreds of kanals of grazing land encroached in city outskirts as district administration sleeps

SRINAGAR, Nov 29: Despite tall claims by State Government that grazing land has been made free from the encroachers hundreds of kanals of grazing land (Kahcharai) has been occupied by influential people hardly few kilometers from the summer capital of the state.
Sources told Early Times that a group of people enjoying close rapport with the ruling dispensation has encroached upon hundreds of kanals of grazing land (Kahcharai) in the outskirts of the Srinagar city. Over the past one month these people have taken control of this land in the Athwajan and Aaripora areas of Srinagar and are constructing houses.
"While some of the houses have already been constructed some others are in the process of construction. Construction work on the boundary walls of the already constructed houses is going at full pace. Up to this moment of time nobody among the district administration has turned up so that the construction work is stopped," said the sources.
Sources alleged that district administration is hand in glove with the land encroachers with respect to the encroachment of grazing land (Kahcharai). They said that it is due to this reason that no action whatsoever has been taken against the land encroachers and they continue to make merry over the encroached land.
"It is not possible that the district administration does not know that houses have come up on grazing land in the outskirts of Srinagar city when a commoner is aware about this development. The district administration is sleeping over the matter so as to provide cover to the encroachers and facilitate the construction of houses on the grazing land," said the sources.
Sources said that people have also encroached upon the state land in many areas of the Srinagar city falling in the outskirts. While some of the people dump cow dung on the state there are others who use it for parking their vehicles. They said the district administration keep their eyes close when it comes to taking action against encroachers.
"The State Government more so the district administration is making tall claims when it comes to freeing the land from encroachers. No substantial action has been taken against the land encroachers and they continue to encroach upon the state land or grazing land in different parts of the district," said the sources.
Sources said that since no action has been taken against the land encroachers so far more and more people are following the suit in encroaching upon the state or grazing land. They said if action would have been taken then people would have made the state or grazing land free from the encroachers.
