KATRA, Feb 24: 92 kanal land situated in village Karandi Khurd of Hiranagar tehsil, which was vacated on court's direction was once again encroached upon by some encroachers.
However, taking a serious notice on the illegal possession of the 92 kanals of Govt land in Kathua by some persons, District Administration suspended a Naib-Tehsildar and a Patwari for alleged nexus with the encroachers. As per the charges, it was found that these two revenue officials had the active involvement in making the illegal possession of the government land by the encroachers.
The encroached land was already emancipated from the illegal possession a year back and declared as Govt land, but on Sunday when the top officials of the District administration Kathua visited the spot and saw the piece of land again has been encroached by the some persons. To deal the matter with iron hand, the district administration took strict and stern legal actions against the revenue officials who played a relevant role in favour land encroachers and made their suspension and released an explanation to the Tehsildhar Hiranagar and further investigation of the matter was handed over to the ADC Kathua.
Pertinently, complying the order of Division Bench, the police evicted 92 kanal and 6 marla land from encroachers in village Karandi Khurd of Hiranagar tehsil. The action was taken by police on the direction of revenue authority. The state land after eviction was later handed over to the Sarpanch of the area for the time being to make a track over it till further orders.
The encroachment of 92 kanal land in village Karandi Khurd, was erupted following the report in this connection was submitted to then Principal Secretary to Chief Minister on April 2006 by then Vigilance Commissioner Dr Ashok Bhan. The matter was later hushed up. The same was taken up by Professor SK Bhalla in the year 2012 when he filed Public Interest Litigation (PIL), highlighting organized land grabbing by certain police officers/ politicians/bureaucrats in connivance with land mafia/under world in various parts of Jammu/Samba Districts in High Court.
PIL witnessed various hiccups and it was on February 19, 2013, the Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi sought action taken report. The senior advocate DC Raina with advocate Ashish Singh Kotwal were being appeared for MP Choudhary Lal Singh where as advocate Varinder Bhat and Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed were being appeared for the petitioner Prof S K Bhalla.
