AAP, PDP candidates to bite deep into Farooq' a traditional vote share: Analysts | | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Mar 20: Calling the electoral process of 2014 different than previous turns, analysts believe that with the entering of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate and strengthening of Peoples Democratic Party in Srinagar constituency, Farooq Abdullah will have to face tough times against its opponents in forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Analysts believe that when last time National Conference (NC) patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah contested from Srinagar constituency which is based on Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal Districts he in a way had to face nobody in opposition who could have given him tough times as after forming Government in 2008 and defeating main opposition peoples democratic (PDP) in Assembly elections, vote bank was completely turned in NC's favour during the Lok Sabha elections of 2009, thereby pre- Lok sabha elections Srinagar seat was decided in favour of NC. However, analysts who wished not to be named believe that since not only 2009 PDP after realizing their cause of defeat started entering in ancestrally considered NC Dominated areas which include Khanyar, Eidgah, Batamaloo, Bemina and Dargah constituencies where PDP initially started membership drives and finally came up with candidates who are likely to contest Assembly elections for them but also in turn help their Lok Sabha candidate Tariq Hammed Kara in all such areas to fetch votes. Murky working mechanism of NC over the years which often resulted in strikes and demonstrations of common masse and repeated contradictory statements of Farooq Abdullah like 'MAHACHOR' though may have a little impact on vote bank during upcoming elections but according to analysts with the entering of AAP candidate Raja Muzaffar in fray in the same constituency, future of Farooq Abdullah seems bleak. "Budgam District is a major vote costing area and Raja Muzaffar is likely to cut NC votes at his home turf where otherwise usually Senior NC leader Abdul Rahim Rather used to campaign for Farooq Abdullah and ask people for votes, but now when Budgam people have their own candidate, Farooq will have to face tough time in the area against Raja," said Analysts Analysts believe that some pockets of Srinagar which used to call as NC dominated areas and where people usually cost their votes and does not follow election boycott call of separatists which include Hazratbal, Soura, Telbal, Shalimar, Nishat, Dara, Theed, Sonawar, Mahjoor Nagar have completed slipped from the age old grip of NC since 2008-09 and as per their assessment vote bank of all these areas which completely decided the fate of Farooq Abdullah during 2009 lok Sabha elections may likely get fragmented during upcoming elections and instead of Farooq may go in favour of PDP and AAP candidates. After Srinagar and Budgam Districts, analysts also believe that in central Kashmir's Ganderbal District where keeping in view the ground reality of NC, not only Omar Abdullah is fearing to contest in forthcoming Assembly elections , the picture is not too rosy for Farooq Abdullah as well. |
