HC seeks report about STPs in hotels at Jammu, Katra | Directs eviction of state land encroachers in Gulmarg | | Early Times Report srinagar, Mar 20: Jammu and Kashmir High Court today asked Pollution Control Board to file status report regarding functioning of STPs in hotels at Jammu, Katra and Patnitop in addition to the Kashmir valley. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation, a division bench comprising of Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi also made it clear to PCB re-seal those hotels that are not having a functional STP or not complying with other pollution norms. The division court also reiterated that it will not accept slackness on part of officials in compliance of the court directions and warned them of stern action in future. The division also directed Government to evict all those persons who have encroached upon the state land. "Penal action should be taken against the lease holders who have occupied land in access at Gulmarg," the court said, observing that this category of people must pay penal rent. Earlier, Chief Town Planner, Kashmir, submitted status report indicating completion of Master Plan for the Gulmarg. The court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation, seeking directions to protect Gulmarg ski-resort from pollution and illegal constructions. |
