MENDHAR, Apr 10: Mendhar town witnessed a severe fallout today between the ruling coalition partner National Conference and major opposition People’s Democratic Party when situation turned hostile at polling booth no 43 at Kalaban, Mendhar.
As per the information reaching here, the National Conference leader and the Deputy Chairman, Javed Ahmed Rana allegedly took the control of the area by capturing poll booth No. 43 and in the process cast 92 % votes in the favour of National Conference by overpowering Mendhar.
While the NC leader was on voting spree casting the illegal votes, he was objected by the PDP agents present on the occasion who were roughed up by Rana's PSO and his other goons who hit the agents with rifle butts leaving them in pool of blood.
"As we approached the Dy Chairman asking him to stop the rigging , his PSO as well as goons pounced upon me and hit me with rifle buts and kicked me with shoes all over the body," said Munawar Hussain, s/o Mohammad Hussain resident of Kalaban.
His accomplice Abdul Khaliq , another PDP agent was also given harsh thrashing by the NC leaders' men and was seriously left hit at different places .
Both were left unconscious on the spot and immediately removed to Sub District hospital Mendhar for first aid.
As soon the reports of rigging of booth no 43 at Kalaban by NC leaders reached the PDP workers, they gathered in the town and shouted slogans against the coalition Government's high-handedness.
The angry mob, however, came across Dy Chairman Javed Ahmed Rana's secretary in the area and rounded him up by returning with slaps and kicks who managed to give the slip to the angry mob and flee from the spot.
Meanwhile, Javed Ahmed Rana, who runs his party office in the Government quarters ordered his PSOs and men to launch offensive on the PDP ex MLC Mohd Rashid Qureshi, who also lives in the same Government quarters.
"As soon as Qureshi left his quarter to go to cast his vote, Rana's goons launched an attack catching him unaware and also stone pelted his vehicle damaging his car. Quershi received a grievous head injury in the process and was referred to team of doctors who examined him and suggested him to be removed to Government College Jammu for advanced treatment," said one of the witnesses.
While addressing the media, PDP leader advocate Maroof Ahmed Khan launched a scathing attack on NC 's Javed Ahmed Rana terming him as a person running a dictatorial regime in the area and questioned his position in the electoral process .
"Is he deployed as the presiding officer on the polling booth so that he can run the show on his own whims," he charged.
Meanwhile, the sitting MLC of PDP Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan has taken a serious note of the issue and assured the public to reach to the State Chief Electoral Officer to take the cognizance of the unfortunate incident taken place at Mendhar .
The PDP workers and residents were reported to have reached the concerned police station of the area and have demanded for lodging of an FIR by name against the NC Dy Chairman Javed Ahmed Rana for his alleged involvement in the rigging of the polling station No 43 in Kalaban.
A written complaint stands registered against the NC leader while the public of the area are insisting on the canceling of the polling station No 43 with a demand of fresh poll in the booth.
The entire Mendhar town till the filing of the story is reported to be tense as high deployment of police has been done throughout the area to avoid any untoward incident.
The residents of the area have leveled serious allegations against the law and order machinery to have totally collapsed in the region that led to the capturing and rigging of polling station by the NC goons.
