State BJP in dilemma | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 17: The state unit of the BJP may have been celebrating the grand victory of three party candidates in the Lok Sabha polls with huge margins but inside reports claimed that several senior leaders of the party are in a dilemma on how to improve the party fortunes in the coming Assembly polls due in November 2014. The constituency wise analysis of the voting pattern did paint a rosy picture as BJP was able to establish a healthy lead on 23 Assembly segments falling under two Lok Sabha seats in Jammu region but the biggest worry of BJP leaders is whether they would be able to sustain the momentum till forthcoming elections are announced. BJP had established lead on 15 Assembly segments on Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat and eight Assembly segments on Udhampur-Doda seat. "It is difficult to say with authority whether or not the state BJP leaders would be able to replicate their performance in the Assembly polls or not after a gap of six months" a senior political analyst claimed. Referring to the Amarnath land row a senior party leader Saturday claimed despite recording historic win on 11 Assembly seats in 2008 Assembly polls the BJP failed to win Lok Sabha seats after a gap of few months in 2009 Lok Sabha polls. Partys' dismal performance was blamed on the poor selection of candidates and frequent u-turns by Leela Karan Sharma, convener of the Amarnath Sangarsh samiti. In 2014 when Assembly polls would be announced the prevailing political situation and relationship between alliance partners in the state and performance of the PDP MP's from Kashmir valley would also impact the situation in Jammu region and determine the actual poll outcome. |
