Rana reaches out to SC, OBCs ahead of LA polls | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 8: Following total rout in the recently held Lok Sabha elections, the National Conference has now focused on the SC and OBCs of Jammu region to gain some ground in the region. The provincial president for Jammu, Devender Rana today called for convergence among weaker sections to attain political empowerment and socio-economic transformation. The highly `loaded' words of the provincial president must have humbled the participants. However, they need not take the words to heart. NC does not mean what it says. Right from Sher-e-Kashmir's times, NC never believed in political empowerment of anybody except the Sheikh Family. The socio-economic transformation also remains a distant dream as a particular class gets richer with every passing day by draining the resources of the state. There is no denying the fact that Sher-e-Kashmir took keen interest in Sur walas (people who would collect defective rice from households in Srinagar city). However, this affection was politically motivated. This section of the society acted as his `civil militia'. This detested group would tame Sher-e-Kashmir's opponents. This is how he empowered this weaker section. Rana better keep his hands off the SC. Even Mahatma Gandhi could not solve their problems. This is too much for a business tycoon. For feeling the pain of the SC, one needs to have the heart and nerves of Gandhi. History is witness to the fact that Sher-e-Kashmir never reached out to this class of the society. Mader-e-Meherbaan also did not play the typical mother. She too ignored them. Rana is distorting history by attributing to them what they never did. |
