BJP leadership licking wounds of Jitendra Singh's ascend | Jammu relives a sordid gaga of fragmented polity | | Abodh Sharma
Jammu, June 8: State BJP's newly assumed aspiration of getting 44+ seats and forming a Government on its own got a serious snub the previous day when sharp clashes of ego among its leaders came out in open shamefully during the maiden visit of Dr. Jitendra Singh after his induction in the Union Council of Ministers. What happened at Jammu and Udhampur during the weekend has once again brought to the fore the petty vested interests and political shortsightedness of the leadership of Jammu which has historically relegated Jammu to the position of political disadvantage. Jammu's leaders have failed to learn from the manner in which political parties of Kashmir have put up a united face whenever the need arose to safeguard interests of their people or even confront the interests of Jammu. While leadership of Jammu remained bitterly divided over trivial ego issues, bitter rivals turned into most natural allies overnight on several occasions to ensure that Kashmir always got what it wanted. Infamous Amaranth land row which broke out historical agitation in Jammu; The vital issue of delimitation of electoral constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, which has put Jammu at a clear disadvantage in terms of representation in the State Legislative Assembly, are striking examples of how arch political adversaries in Kashmir come together for the interest of their people. Not just the main stream parties, even the bitterly divided factions of separatist Hurriyat Conference have come together whenever there was an issue that concerned the interests of Kashmir. The manner in which the senior leadership of state BJP behaved during the visit of MoS in PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh, it sent clear signals among the people of Jammu that party was divided into factions and the leaders were busy assuaging the wounds inflicted upon them by the sudden political rise of Dr. Jitendra Singh rather than rejoicing the representation to Jammu region in the Union Council of Ministers. At a time when country and the state of Jammu and Kashmir are standing on the cross roads of destiny, the scanty leadership of Jammu is busy settling trivial scores. Umpteen Senas, Morchas, Committees, Manchs and Sanghs have been entangled in frivolous politicking, wasting all their energies to tear each other apart. More unfortunately, even the leadership of the national parties including BJP has been marred by petty clashes of ego and a nationalist Jammu and its people have been relegated to the margin of state's political and developmental scenario. BJP needs serious introspection ahead of coming Assembly elections if it is serious about its new political ambitions in J&K. |
