Adventure Camp at Apple Kids
Campers elated over camel, horse riding

JAMMU, June 08: The young campers from different schools look elated over their life time experiences of riding on camel and horse amidst taking part in sport climbing and number of other activities being held in the ongoing 12-day adventure camp at the premises of Apple Kids International Pre-School, Bantalab, here.
Most of these students were first timers as camel and horse riders on the lawns of the school under the guidance of trained individuals.
"Such activities surely build confidence among the youngsters and make them feel proud of doing different things. By keeping the students in a happy mood through their involvement in other activities in art and dance classes during the four-hour long routines in the camp, I think the basic purpose of the camp is fulfilled," one of the Directors of the School, Rahul Sharma told SAN.
The most important part of the camp was active participation of young boys and girls despite rising mercury. Students have enjoyed their participation in crossing the Burma Bridge, going up and down the Commando Net and touching new heights in Sport Climbing at the 40 ft high wall at the school premises.
"Every day these participating students have been assigned with a task by the art teachers to be completed in a given time. The participants are allowed to take these art pieces back home as memories of the adventure camp," said Principal of the School, Puja Sharma.

ONGC enters final of Football Cup


SRINAGAR, June 08: The ONGC Club today sailed into the final of the Kashmir Invitation Football Cup beating SBT Club 6-4 in tie-breaker at Polo Ground, here.
Earlier, in the stipulated time the semifinal ended in a 1-1 draw. With the result tie-breaker rules were applied by the organizers wherein ONGC emerged triumph.
Taking first lead in the 20th minute of the match, ONGC could not resist the opponent in equalizing the score in the very next move. Nitesh Munda netted the ball from ONGC but the lead was soon leveled by Naushad of SBT in the 24th minute to make it an interesting contest.
The second half of the match remained barren with both sides making unsuccessful attempts on the net.
Later, in tie-breaker, ONGC scored five goals as against three from SBT. Naushad was named man of the match.
Meanwhile, the second semifinal of the Invitation Cup between local side of J&K Forest and Air India got disturbed by the crowd in the last minutes of the game. Both the sides were yet to open the account when officials left with no other option to leave the play ground.


Another group from Shangrilla leaves for Moungri


JAMMU, June 08: Principal of Shangrilla Public School, Sarwal, Surestha Khajuria flagged off the second batch of students for J&K Himalayan Trekking Programme being organized by Tawi Trekkers J&K in Moungri area of Udhampur district.
It was an exclusively girls group comprising of 36 students and three teachers namely Ranjana Gandotra, Asha Sharma and Rashmi Rajdhan. Aman Arora, a trained mountaineer of Tawi Trekkers J&K, accompanied the group as leader.
Meanwhile, the adventure activities at the camp, headquartered at Youth hostel Moungri, were in full swing with budding trekkers in the age group of 10 to 14 years enjoying trekking in the dense, calm and cool pine forest and rappelling. In the lap of nature, these students took part in rock climbing in the nearby rocks and were learning practical lessons in river crossing in the cold water nala near the camp.
"The trekkers are also enjoying their interactions with the local people and learning about the local culture and fauna and flora of the area," informed general secretary of the Tawi Trekkers, Ram Khajuria.
Fresh international standard equipment, approved by UIAA, the apex body for mountaineering in the world, was being used for all the activities being conducted under the direct supervision of Anil Kumar, a senior member of Tawi Trekkers and a trained mountaineer and a national sport climber.
Meanwhile, the next batch of trekkers comprising of students of Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School, Jammu shall leave for the trekking on June 10.


Benia of J&K Police wins Bani dangal


JAMMU, June 08: Wrestler Benia of J&K Police lifted the 110th Annual Bani Kesari Dangal title beating Jagdev of Ludhiana in Punjab in the main bout. Dangal was organised by Manwal Dangal Committee in association with J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.
Benia awarded with a cash prize of Rs 18,000 by president of the Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma, who was chief guest. Sarpanch Balwant Raj along with Virender Kumar Sharma and Girdwar Yash Pal Singh presented Rs 13,000 prize to runners-up wrestler, Jagdev of Ludhiana.
Station House Officer, Majaltha, Sanjeev Sharma and Dr Krishan Lal were guests of honour. Prominent among others present were Sarpanch Rehmat Ali Choudhery, Bittu Sarpanch, Numaberdar Bishan Dass, Sarpanch Dina Nath and Satish Kumar.

In total, 45 bouts were decided in this day-long dangal. The second main bout went to Sukha of Rajasthan, who beat Major of Ludhiana. In third main bout Nishar Ahmed of Doda defeated Ranjeet of Ludhiana while fourth main bout bagged by Rajan of Banaras after he defeated Gurmail of Chandigarh.
Technical officials, who helped in the smooth conduct of this dangal included Om Parkash Verma, Yash Paul Singh, Sagar Singh, Raj Singh, Mohd. Fareed, Murli Dhar (Munna), Tulinder Kumar and Lochan Singh.

Open chess tourney from June 15


JAMMU, June 08: Organised by Ace Chess Academy under the aegis of All J&K Chess Association, the Open Chess Tournament shall be held from June 15 at the Academy premises in Trikuta Nagar, here.
As per a handout issued here today, those winners in this competition shall be awarded with cash prizes worth Rs 10,000 so as to encourage young talent. Interested players have been advised to submit their entries before June 15.

Budgam girls lift U-14 volleyball title


JAMMU, June 08: Beating district Samba in final, Budgam girls clinched the under-14 title in annual inter-district state level volleyball tournament held under the banner of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Government Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor today.
Losing the opening set 18-25, Budgam girls clinched the following sets to take home the title trophy. The score: 18-25, 25-24, 15-13.
Meanwhile, in boys section, district Ramban shall be playing against Kulgam in the final tomorrow at the same venue.
Earlier, in the semifinals, played today, Ramban defeated district Anantnag in straight sets of 25-15, 25-19. Shabir was star performer from winning Ramban team.
In other semifinal, Kulgam trounced district Rajouri in straight but close sets of 27-25, 25-21. Syed Umar remained in limelight for his fine game for the winning Kulgam side while Nasir defended well from Rajouri.
Today's girls final and boys semifinals officiated by the technical penal including Raman Gupta, Mohd Tariq, Narinder Singh, Sanjay, Rajeev, Romesh Kumar, Mohd Jameel and Mulkhraj Sharma.

Natrang stages hindi play 'Lottery Ka Ticket''

Jammu, June 8: Natrang in its Sunday Theatre series presented a hilarious play 'Lottery Ka Ticket' written by Showkat Thanvi and directed by Neeraj Kant.
According to press release the play tickled the funny bone of the audience by providing an insight to a very funny family. Different plays of different genres are presented by Natrang to its audience in Sunday Theatre Series which is running consistently for the last 10 years.
The play revolves around the story of one 'Munshi Ji' who buys a lottery ticket and is consumed by the idea of winning it.
He is over optimistic rather obsessed with the idea of winning the money. He plans how he would utilise the cash that he gets after winning the lottery. He also resigns from his job as he thinks that he is going to be rich and does not need a mundane job to feed his family anymore. His wife and brother on the other hand are apprehensive about all this.
They try to warn him about his doings but seeing his enthusiasm they are also pulled in the fantasy Munshi Ji is living in. The play gives a relative picture of a middle class family that hopes and relies on the concept of 'Easy money' and the idea of becoming rich overnight.
These hopes are scattered when the true reality bites in. The play also tells us about the harrowing distress that lack of money or material wealth can have on a family. The play ends with a hilarious note when 'Munshi ji's' sister-in-law dies but he is still obsessed with the idea of getting the lottery.
The role of 'Munshi Ji' was performed by Varun Sharma who mesmerised the audience with his acting skills. The role of 'Salim' was well performed by Namit Dubey. The role of 'Begum' was played by Vanshika Gupta who with her crispiness kept the audience glued to their chairs. The role of the son, 'Nasim' was played by Gopi Sharma and the role of the 'Thekedaar' was played by Syed Muddasar Ali Shah. The lights and music was executed by Neeraj Kant. The presentation was done by Susheel Raina and the show was coordinated by Sumeet Sharma and Mohd. Yaseen.

LWWS holds motivational proramme

JAMMU, June 8: Lalded Women Welfare Society (LWWS) held motivational programme at Gangyal on Sunday.
According to press release the play was organised on the behalf of blind life, that how they spend life in the Human Society. The play was written by Suraj Narayan and Directed by Naveen Pal and Barkha Thakur.
Inmates and others present on the occasion appreciated the player in the motivational cause. Santosh Basotra Secretary by LWWS appealed the young generation to come forward to donate their eyes for the needy blind people. Society needs to support and take care for these needy blind people.

Jammu to Witness many district level championships

Jammu, June 8: Jammu is going to witness District level championships of various games soon. Many of the children from various schools join stadium everyear and get training from well Qualified coaches.
Talking to Early Times one of the coach of table tennis Satish Gupta shared his views that although there are some problems like infrastructure construction but every year about 100s of children come everyyear and get training there.
The coach who also grabbed many gold medals also said that in his coaching career many of the bright children got awarded with gold medals. “ I n the forthcoming championships, we are expexting some more golds in jammu’s hands”, he also added.
