Govt slumbers over vital road projects | | | Arun Singh
Jammu, June 9: Notwithstanding the fact that hundreds of lives are lost on roads in Jammu and Kashmir every month, the state government has chosen to sleep over eight vital road projects sanctioned by the Union Government under Central Road Fund (CRF) over three months back. Sources told Early Times that State Government had sent a proposal of eight CRF projects to the Central government for its approval last year consequently which were sanctioned in the month of March this year at the sanctioned cost of Rs 101 crore. "The commencement of work is getting delayed as the tendering process for the projects has not been initiated by the concerned authority till date," they said further adding that if there are slight chances that work may start this year as it takes at least two months for the completion of tendering process. "Most of the projects are for the hilly areas including Doda, Poonch, Rajouri and Ganderbal and it becomes difficult to carry out work in winters in these areas," they said. They said that the persistent delay in starting the road projects is ultimately affecting the residents of these remote areas which are still unconnected. The State Government is already under the scanner of central government for its poor performance in executing the various central sponsored schemes in the state as several schemes worth crores of rupees are incomplete for the last many years. |
