KPs seek retrieval of shrines from Dharmarth Trust

Srinagar, June 9: Alleging lack of transparency in the use of funds in the maintenance of Hindu Shrines in the valley, several KP organizations have demanded retrieval of shrines from Dharmarth Trust for their better management and maintenance.
Members of various other trusts functioning in Jammu and Kashmir and headed by Kashmiri Pandits said that Dharmarth trust which is headed by Dr. Karan Singh has failed to take care of temples and other religious places and alleged that the income generated during festivals goes in the pockets of unknown persons instead of renovation of temples and other religious places across the state.
Secretary of Durga- Nag Trust, Dr Nakhasi while talking to Early Times said, "I see little logic in handing over all hindu shrines in the valley to Dharmarth trust even as most of these shrines have not been maintained properly". While alleging money swindling to a larger extent by the office bearers of Dharmarth Trust, Sanjay Saraf another Kashmiri Pandit said that "Temples and other religious places are the ancestral property of Kashmiri Pandits and should be in their possession to maintain them and renovate as per the need of the Kashmiri Pandits. Dharmarth Trust should also hand over other temples like Hanuman Mandir, Ram Mandir of Bar Bar shah Srinagar and Alochi Bagh" Kashmiri pandits allege that they are receiving reports that Dharmarth Trust is also responsible for selling land of temples to land Mafias and grabbing huge chunk of money generated during festivals at many places across the state and when at many places temples are in dilapidated condition, Dharmarth Trust has failed to renovate and develop the temples on modern lines. "Be it is Kheer-Bawani of Tulmula or any other temple there must be a kind of Shrine board or any trust like Auqaaf board to look after so that money generated could be properly utilized for the development of religious places," said another member of a trust, Kuldeep Raina.
On contacting General Manager of Dharmarth trust R.L Bhan said that the concept of Shrines Bill is of no use as it is not needed. "Dharmarth Trust spends all the money on renovation and functioning of temples at many places across the state and there is no misuse of money as has been alleged" and added that at present 'arround 12 temples in kashmir are functioning only on the money generated from Kheer-Bawani Mela, they should worry for those temples which are in dilapidated condition instead of worrying for Dharmarth Trust, "said General Manager Dharmarth Trust, RL Bhan.
